My mountain bike, and lots of leaves on the ground

We could calculate a (strava time/bluesky posts) ratio for each day, and display it next to people's PFPs. If it dips below 1, worry.

maybe a labeler that we hook up to alltrails or strava (rip foursquare): “this user’s last time outside was more than 72 hours ago”

Probably fewer long threads on stats though 😅

I don't order delivery (doordash, grubhub, seamless, etc), so I'd like to point out that I'm morally consistent here.

At least if they're in a bike lane on a street, if you're on a real bike, you can dodge them by going into traffic. No such option exists on, eg, the GWB.

Even more unpopular opinion: NYC made a mistake allowing e-bikes in parks, on greenways, and on bridges. The legalization was exploited by every bad actor on a throttle-operated e-whatever, and it's made these places significantly less safe.

My unpopular urbanist opinion is that big, hyperfast two-wheelers are a menace and should be banned from bike lanes/paths (with enforcement).

These things endanger everyone riding a bike or legal e-bike. Worse, they deter some from even trying.
E-bikes have evolved into e-motorcycles. Law enforcement is lagging behind.
Serious injuries are on the rise in emergency rooms around the country, as electric cycles become bigger and faster. Lawmakers and police departments are scrambling to address the problem.

Yes. If we want e-bikes to scale, we have to deal with hyper fast two-wheelers, which are a scourge.

These things are turning people against e-bikes. Is that fair? No, but it’s reality.
climatenick.bsky.social
Agree they are a menace, we have to make sure we emphasize the difference between these and normal e-bikes, as they are often treated as the same thing in media and politics.

There’s a Stairway to Heaven, but a Highway to Hell. This implies Heaven is a walkable community, and Hell is a congested interstate.

the financial district is too funny … tell me why every old office building has a name etched in stone like The Amalgamated Steamship, Corn Refining and Horse Insurance Co., 1888

and now it’s a WeWork with a salad place

yeah, if anything, I suspect the big money nostalgia will be for the sporty Japanese cars (Integras, Civics, WRXs, etc). I suspect there will be fewer of those to collect, simply because lots of "car guys" didn't take Japanese cars seriously

"90s American car" feels like the anti-nostalgia sweet spot. people our age didn't grow up dreaming of Corvettes (the way boomers did), the performance is abysmal, and they have enough electronics that maintenance is going to be a headache.
