Councillor for Paekawakawa Southern Ward Pōneke Wellington!
Pinned
Kia Ora Blue Sky peeps,
I am running for re-election to the Wellington City Council because I believe our community has the power to build a creative, innovative, sustainable city for all of us. If you are in Paekawakawa Southern Ward, Welly, please Vote no 1 Laurie Foon #makinggoodthingshappen
People centred multi generational investment actually works!
Ōtautahi's doing so well atm precisely because of the people-centred investment and I'm gutted to hear about the back tracking on the Golden Mile in Pōneke. I hope the review actually looks at the full benefits, not just the costs.

I did not vote for a pause or review to the Golden Mile. Progress has already been too slow and I do not wish to contribute to that. I sincerely hope that the project will survive this review.

I did NOT vote to review the Golden Mile today. Cities across Aotearoa & the world are revitalising their centres, attracting people back into them. We'll now put NZTA funding at risk, & costs only ever increase. We need to ask how we do it? Not say let's review it!

Wellington’s controversial Golden Mile paused for review
Only the Greens wanted to push on, even after news of another cost blowout.

Surreal but genuinely lovely to welcome our new Mayor and Council at today’s inauguration. Handing over the chains to @andrewlittlenz.bsky.social felt like closing a very meaningful chapter, one I’ll always carry with me. I truly wish the team the best as they take the reins of our beautiful city.

Yes all the best to @andrewlittlenz.bsky.social

Just before the new council starts its journey, one more mihi to @misswhanau.bsky.social for the commitment to leading Pōneke in a 5% reduction in carbon emissions last year. Just about half of this reduction is from on-road emissions due to changes the city has made. Ka Rawe! No mean feat!

Thanks @julieannegenter.greens.org.nz!
Looking forward to continuing the collaborative mahi for Paekawakawa!
Congratulations!! Mayor @andrewlittlenz.bsky.social,

The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.

A viable cycling network is a vital safety-net for people and the economy. Is the cheapest transport network to install and maintain. A measure of a city’s competence and civility.

Chopping the organics collection is the project most of Welly’s aspiring mayors have on their to do list. Shock is odd considering they all want to provide value for money services. @maxrashbrooke.bsky.social explains why it’s good for planet and wallets.

Wellington’s new waste plan is a step toward a greener city
OPINION: Half a century on, my grandmother would have been dismayed to see waste piling ever-higher – but heartened by the signs that, at long last, those piles might soon start shrinking.
