A spacious open cabin with kitchen breakfast bar, woodstove and loft above, all in yellowed cedar that shines with it's smoothness through caring work of the wood. Here there is room for chat, sharing of food, song and dancing or games. All the wonderful things shared with others who fight off the chill and darkness of both winter and society. So come in, leave the stress and worries at the door, and find yourself delighted in the revelry of your friends and neighbors once more. Mulled Pear Cider - Ingredients: 8 cups (1900 ml) water 6 (1620 grams) pears cut into quarters 1/4 cup (60 ml) maple syrup or to taste 4 cardamom pods or 5/8 teaspoon ground cardamom 4 whole cloves or 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 2 cinnamon sticks or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 star anise or 1/2 teaspoon ground star anise 1 orange small, sliced + more to taste 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg freshly ground Instructions: Add the water, pears, maple syrup, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise to a large dutch oven. Set the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. 8 cups (1900 ml) water,6 (1620 grams) pears,1/4 cup (60 ml) maple syrup,4 cardamom pods,4 whole cloves,2 cinnamon sticks,1 star anise Reduce the heat so the cider is very gently boiling and cook for 2 hours. After 2 hours, use a wooden spoon (or potato masher) to break up the pears. This will help release all of the flavor! Add the sliced orange and ground nutmeg. Reduce the heat again slightly so that the cider is just simmering. Cook for an additional 1 hour. 1 orange,1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Place a fine mesh sieve over a large heatsafe bowl and very carefully pour the cider through the strainer. Press on the solids in the strainer to ensure that all of the liquid from the pears has been released. This cider can be enjoyed as is, placed in the fridge to chill, or kept warm over low heat on the stove or in a slow cooker. Storage: Store any leftover cider in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days. Warm Spiced Wine - Ingredients: 1 (750-milliliter) bottle red wine (such as Merlot, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, or Beaujolais) 2 cups apple cider 1/2 cup brandy 1/2 cup honey 1/2 tsp. whole cloves (about 10) 2 cinnamon sticks, plus more for serving 2 star anise pods 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced 2 oranges 1 apple, cut into rounds, for serving Instructions: 1. In a medium saucepan, combine the wine, apple cider, brandy, honey, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and ginger. Using a vegetable peeler, remove half the zest from 1 orange in wide strips, avoiding the white pith. Add the zest to the saucepan. Cut the orange in half and squeeze the juice directly into the pan. Cut the second orange into half-moon slices for serving. 2. Warm the mixture over medium-low heat until simmering, but do not let it boil. Simmer gently for 20 to 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse. 3. Strain the wine through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger, and orange zest before serving, if desired. Pour into mugs and garnish with orange and apple slices and cinnamon sticks. Kettle Corn - Ingredients: 1/4 cup coconut oil 1/2 cup popcorn kernels 1/4 cup granulated sugar Kosher salt Instructions: 1. Heat the coconut oil in a shallow 5- to 6-quart saucepan with a handle over medium-high heat. Add the popcorn kernels, then the granulated sugar. Using a rubber spatula, stir to combine. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Wait until you hear the first few kernels popping, then remove the pan from the heat, shake for 3 seconds and return the pan to the heat for 10 seconds. Continue to do this until the popcorn has almost reached the lid of the pot and the pops begin to slow (2 to 3 seconds between each pop). 2. Remove the pan from the heat and give it one more good shake, then pour the kettle corn onto a large sheet tray. Sprinkle all over with kosher salt.

I was raised in a small Southern town. People talked to each other. I always walk, smile, and saying hi to all walking by, petting the dogs and making quick small talk. Even if I force myself. It’s amazing how ppl respond. It makes me feel connected and much happier.We need more connection/smiles.
