I'm working on an article for @leehamnews.com about why NextGen, the most recent ATC upgrade plan, failed after costing ~$15 billion.

Important context: a string of upgrade failures preceded it, going all the way back to the 1970s.

I'll talk about this in my next newsletter also - out this week.
Trump: "Buttigieg spent billions fixing the air traffic control. They used copper wire going into glass wire. Any union electrician here or any non-union electrician would say you can't hook copper into glass. It doesn't work. They spent billions, turned on the system & it was stone cold blank"
This is an important thread by Colleen Mondor (who occasionally writes for @leehamnews) to read.
Today, the Senate Commerce Committee unanimously voted to advance the ROTOR Act. This act will mandate use of ADS-B tech in most US airspace. It was drafted following the January DC midair which occurred when the Black Hawk did not have its ADS-B operating. /1 avweb.com/aviation-new...

EWR is one of the worst terminals in the US

My front yard tree is currently the embodiment of Autumn — crazy colors!!
Pilot has sense of humor. He hopes we enjoyed the tour of the airport and used planes, trains and automobiles (buses).
The only plus to come out of this: previously full flight now has lots of empty seats, including the 2 next to me, as people booked alternate flights
Swapped terminals twice. Swapped airplanes once. Now supposed to get to ORD in 5pm hr, and Chicago rush hr airport and road traffic. Now have been at SEA longer than light to ORD. And replacement plane came off the line 2 planes after N704AL (for those who remember). Ironic today.
Some local OEM must be behind the plot
Another terminal swap (back to original) and to a *hardstand* gate.
And I left out terminal swap at SEA this morning too
And now we're swapping planes
To add insult, was up at 0500 for this flight.....
Which always means 30 minute taxi. Since will be landing in 4pm hrs (I hope) I hope gate will be available instead of penalty box.
Well, week long trip hasn't gone well. 2 hrs delay at ORD for rain in NYC. From there to SEA, where 1st nite at hotel had no heat. Then three accidents on 3 freeways delayed or stopped traffic. Now on 2 hr delay (so far) at SEA for maintenance. Almost certainly will land ORD on "MKE" runway [more]
