Just realized I never properly re-introduced myself. Hi, I’m Jason, aka @airlineflyer. I post about airplanes, airports, trains, public transit and travel. I co-host @flightradar24.com’s AvTalk podcast with @petchmo.bsky.social.

Looking forward to reconnecting with familiar names meeting new ones.
Good morning, Dulles

Meanwhile, at my hotel that does not leave the ground and is surrounded by nothing but data centers…

Good afternoon and welcome on board United flight…oh no, come on please, no not again. It’s UA3688. Operated by Republic. With nonstop service from LGA to IAD. Or not. We’ll see what the #CursedRoute has in store for us today.
December 8, 2025 at 7:57 PM
Yikes! It’s super busy here at LGA B today, with the regular TSA line spilling out into the check-in hall. Even PreCheck has a bit of a line.

Touchless PreCheck, mercifully, has no line at all.

It seems United may have heard the negative feedback about the iOS enhanced boarding pass and turned it off, reverting to the classic version?

I’m not seeing it for today’s flight, nor is a friend on another flight.

I don't care what Zohran says about Israel. I care what he does about the bus
Two things that come to mind as I see this

1) Important to remember that Zohran Mamdani's relatively conciliatory approach to the issue of Palestine and his joy-based attitude does not actually stem any of the criticism.

2) It's doubtful that anyone in Democratic leadership comes to his defense

Turns out I was not at all mad that my flight swapped from 747-8i to A380
Passenger comfort still a priority on venerable Korean Air A380

Already tempting fate with tomorrow’s #CursedRoute flight. It won’t load the seat map, didn’t give me PreCheck, and vomits errors anytime I try to do something in the app.

It’s insane that within just a few weeks, two of Canada’s major cities opened polar opposite transit systems.

REM - An extension to a high frequency, fast, fully automated metro system

Finch West - A many years late, over budget, disastrously slow light rail line

I hope someone from @mta.info is at the opening of Toronto's Finch West LRT taking notes on everything NOT to do on the IBX.

This is pathetic.
First impression:

Wow this is even slower than imagined!

The most difficult part of returning from Asia, aside from the jet lag.
December 6, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Congrats on your newly extended (again) transit line, Seattle.

At ~90 minutes the Link light rail 1 line is now a longer ride than @mta.info’s longest subway line, the A train.

Wow, straight out of a one of the most emotional Scrubs plot lines from like 20 years ago.
A Michigan man died of rabies after getting a kidney transplant from another man who died of the virus, only the fourth instance in nearly 50 years in which an organ donor passed the virus to a recipient, federal officials said.
Kidney Recipient Dies After Transplant From Organ Donor Who Had Rabies
Only four donors have transmitted rabies to organ transplant recipients since 1978, according to federal officials.

An ALDI opened up in Downtown Brooklyn recently and they make you unlock the shopping cars with a quarter like it’s 1997

When you finally finish the 4 hour 18 minute 30 second @defunctland.bsky.social video you started over a week ago while still in Asia

First meal back from Asia and I went all in on the US theme

Coming home from JFK yesterday I opened the autogate door to get my luggage through and at least 10 people took that opportunity to pass through it.

I'm not mad at these people for taking advantage, but I am mad that MTA took so damn long to replace its inadequate fare gates to prevent this.
We got an exclusive look at them installed. youtu.be/ie8mNSCJFbk?...

lol Lufthansa, this is unbelievably petty. I can't believe an entire chain of people at the company thought this was a good idea and actually executed on it.

Arriving into JFK from Japan hits you like a ton of bricks. An awful experience.

But at least the AirTrain is zipping past traffic and is running well these days.

Good evening and welcome on board American flight AA168, with nonstop service from Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK.

We’ve got a 787-9 on the job, and I was lucky enough to buy to from Premium Economy to Business after spending months tracking the pricing. Nice way to fly, even if it’s not JAL or ANA!
December 4, 2025 at 8:19 AM
Turns out the Cathay Pacific Haneda lounge is actually where I want to spend my last few minutes in Japan.
December 4, 2025 at 6:35 AM
Is the Tokyo Monorail the world’s best airport public transit access? If not, I’m stumped. A 13 minute express ride from Hamamatsucho to Haneda in just 3 minutes, operating every 10 minutes threaded between local trains. The fare?

$3.34 US

30+ minutes of trains at and near Takanawa Gateway Station.

You can learn a lot about the amazingness of Japanese train operations by just watching. The northbound Keihin-Tōhoku train (blue) almost always departs right before the Yamanote train (green), but southbound they always arrive together.

Just a few more hours in Tokyo.
