Just realized I never properly re-introduced myself. Hi, I’m Jason, aka @airlineflyer. I post about airplanes, airports, trains, public transit and travel. I co-host @flightradar24.com’s AvTalk podcast with @petchmo.bsky.social.

Looking forward to reconnecting with familiar names meeting new ones.

The Long Lines equipment has been offline for decades. The towers themselves host all sorts of other stuff now, including modern microwave links

Probably. But the Long Lines antennas are just there now. They don’t do anything.

It’s kinda nuts how there’s still demossiomed AT&T Long Lines facilities in NYC, even in dense areas like 53rd Street. They just never get taken down.

These antennas need line of sight to others and had to be way up high, which they were in the 1950s. Now they’re dwarfed by modern high rises.

Yea it really should just say D at that point. Nobody cares that it was a B train since it’s now effectively a D. But this is a common thing for MTA.

I got my $2.90 worth. Transportation and a show.

They sorted it out at DeKalb bsky.app/profile/airl...

Welp, my first R211 B train ride was an interesting one! It turned into a B train via the D line at my home station, which was perfect. On the old trains you would’ve just had to hear the broken PA and figure out yourself. But this new train is full of digital information. A++

And yet not a peep about that on board. Displays still all day regular B routing as we cross the bridge.

As long as it stops at DeKalb, that’s fine.

Yesss finally snagged an R211 B train and it’s is FLYING on the 34th to W 4th express stretch.

This train is so clean, it must be brand new.

I saw emergency vehicles using that bike lane to bypass the traffic. So good.

I have been watching this closely recently. Bus drivers routinely depart their first stop 2-5 minutes early, predictably. It’s like they operate on a schedule totally different than what’s public. It’s maddening.

You can always count on United to host a fantastic “we just announced new international routes” celebration in NYC, featuring food and drink from those destinations. Love it.

The traffic headed to the Lincoln Tunnel on 11th Ave today is INSANE.

Congestion pricing is $9 now? Triple it! Crossing 11th I almost got run over a few times with the green light, including by a horse drawn carriage in the bike lane. Wtf lol.

And I’m trying again in a few weeks!

Flex-post, bike lane, bike share dock protected painted sidewalk extension.

What a combo.

Hey yea we do business with alternativeairlines. They’re great!

Oh the irony of advertising an AI pendant “friend” in the subway, a place where the lack of data connectivity makes said Friend literally useless.

I can’t even remember the last time I got a flight booking a fraud alert from Chase. It basically doesn’t happen.
airlineflyer.net
Ohhhh the rush of booking a flight so out of the ordinary that even Chase is like "whoa whoa whoa, this doesn't look right, I'm gonna stop you right there buddy"
