I like to say that all animation takes a long time if you are doing it right.
There’s a new pinscreen movie called The Night Boots by
Pierre-Luc Granjon that I believe is qualified for the Oscars this year. Quite lovely. There are so few pinscreen movies because there are so few operative pin screens!
I‘m not suggesting there’s anything wrong with the costume. Didn’t say that the political views of a voice actor from the 30s implicated him in any way. Just dropping a bit of animation history trivia.
Apparently Christian Rub, who voiced Gepetto in the Disney film, was a bit of a Nazi sympathizer.
Sewage is starting to back up, says man standing in nipple-deep sewage.
Saw Sunrise at the Academy theater in LA 20ish years ago. I left walking on air.

Also: Play Time in 70mm, Spirited Away
(Though rereading your post, this misses the funny mark)
The Gate is a fun 80s movie. I‘d compare it to Poltergeist in scariness. Some genuinely wow effects.
I like the story of Chaplin and Fairbanks stopping people on the street and asking for directions with high pitched, annoying voices and then watching their faces fall
Dunno if it’s true, but it’s an amusing story.
I wonder what percentage of MP sketches are just one person stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the obvious. Dead parrot, black knight, cheese shop, flying lessons…
Damn. Saw this trio perform in LA a few years back. One of the most amazing concerts I have ever attended. RIP to a great, great drummer
I turned my head, and I coughed. Can you believe it? The doctors said they’ve never seen anything like that. Biden couldn’t do it. Turn AND cough. But the UN teleprompter was broken, and the escalator. Theyre ripping us off n
If you ever have a chance to see it in 3d, it’s well worth a revisit. Hitchcock had fun with the tech.
I‘ve been frustrated by this too. Over the last year, as I share and discuss my animated documentary on my experiences volunteering with the Chevra Kadisha, I’ve had numerous questions about my “faith” that illustrate how different my concept of religion is from the Christian-centric norm.
So far in this list you’ve nailed several of my absolute favorites: play time, passion of joan of arc, the apartment…. Hats off to good taste, sir.
I wonder if he was into autobiographic asphyxiation.
Just got to host the director, John Musker, in my animation class. I know students were hoping I would ask more questions about his other films (Moana, Aladdin, Mermaid, Treasure Planet), but I was so excited to talk to him about this one. Especially to hear about working with Vincent Price.
Amazing. Is this recording the 1950 or the 1951?
I feel like five or ten years ago this was assumed and tacitly agreed on by nearly everyone. Like many other things…
Maybe the only thing worse than:

First time watch: Hobson's Choice. Absolutely wonderful. I only knew Brenda de Banzie as the villain in The Man Who Knew Too Much (one of my favorite Hitchcocks) and she is so, so different here- I'm smitten. Great dialogue, great characters, great performances. Most fun movie I've seen in a while.
That sucks. I saw Elvis Costello last week and there were a few moments that seriously felt like elder abuse. Couldn’t believe no one who loved him pulled him offstage to stop him from embarrassing himself further.
