It isn't just a cross tattoo. Hegseth has "Deus Vult" written on top of it. That's a somewhat botched version of a slogan from the Crusades that's popular with far-right extremist groups. The Proud Boys wrote it on their shields it in Charlottesville under their guise as the "Alt-Knights."
