X 1d • We're living through the biggest crisis in conservative politics since Federation, not because one leader had a bad week, but because the entire coalition of interests that was "the Right" is now three different movements, pulling in three different directions. Conservative politics right now looks like a glass that's hit the tiles. One shard is the Nationals, openly walking out of the Coalition shadow ministry after the latest blow-up, on top of the longer, unresolved rupture in the Coalition relationship itself. Another shard is the populist Right: One Nation surging as the Coalition's primary vote bleeds. And then there's the moderate, professional conservative vote, the part of the Liberal brand that used to hold the centre-right together, increasingly parking itself with teals and independents. I would not rule out this last group actually tactically voting to elect Labor candidates to stop the rise of PHON in non teal electorates.
