It’s ‘cause they wanna dissociate from reality and would rather not acknowledge that the people makin’ the art they goon to are, in fact, people that live in the real world and that they are entitled to have an opinion on this and that. It’s such a selfish perspective to have.

Why shouldn’t one believe it’s immoral, to say the least, for the state to employ paramilitary forces to scare the populace into compliance? Whether it’s militarized police, death squads, or masked goons with a license to assault, kidnap, and murder, it’s all the same—contrary to a free society.

For me, I lost interest in it when I first learned its author was a transphobe and devoted her wealth to fund movements to marginalize transgender folk. Transphobia and an authentic belief in liberal ideals don’t mix.

But to equate a government with its people is foolish. The current trajectory we’re on is wrong, that’s for damn sure. However, I refuse to believe reform is impossible, and I know in my heart we can do better than this. As such, doomerism shan’t persuade me.

Not gonna lie, it low-key kinda pisses me off when people post vitriol toward the United States as a concept, rather than its current administration. I get that at no point in our history as a nation have we lived up to the ideals we founded it on.
