Yup. As is, you're basically pushed into burning Chocolate for the "infinite Focus Attacks" because those have a ton of gap-close, range, cleave somewhat widely, and inflict a lot of stun. It's your best (only..) meaningful "ranged" option, in a game that backloads non-optional arenas. :/

It eventually grew on me when I realized you're really never SUPPOSED to fight anything "raw," you always want to burn some kind of resource, and if you don't pick which one to burn, the game will pick for you.
