The question is why should money earning money be given exceptions where you essentially pay next to no taxes with a bit of creative imagination. Money earning money should be taxed the same as work earning money (every year). Just skew taxes on work earning money down to balance it out.

While not all billionaires are directly attacking democracy, I don't see how having so much money is entirely compatible with democracy thriving. They have too much influence to break the democratic process.

Japan's limit on R290 is 1.09 lbs. There is next to no global warming potential, and it doesn't break down to anything dangerous. If being outside mitigates the risks and you can heat/cool by moving glycol, that is a lot of boxes checked. Propane is also cheap.

Heating and Cooling is a large expense. One possibility Europe and Japan are embracing is monoblock heat pumps with R290(propane). High efficiency. The entire unit is outside. You use glycol to transfer the heat to and from the house, thus no propane is inside. Works well in the coldest weather.

I'll add to the general rant against ens***ification. Stop making crap a pain to use. For instance, if you have a television and you were watching a channel and you turn it off, or it turns itself off, have the option when you turn it back on to keep playing.

We need to somehow restore some mainstream sources to fact based neutrality. I know that is stating the obvious, but of those that support the current regime, I'd say at least a third would possibly reconsider if they weren't being fed propaganda, if they knew of things like detaining babies...

You're right of course. It is also clear that public opinion has turned considerably, so it does matter. There are a lot of unsolved problems. That happens in any sufficiently complex system. Sometimes all you can do is keep trying to move forward and looking for options to solve some of those.

Add to that a ban on NDAs associated with anyone who has ever ran for elected office at any non trivial level. Also add those who have agreed to be considered for an appointment for any position.

I think there may be some terminology confusion.
1. Actual culture is important. Celebrate it. Learn about others. Don't obsess if not the same.
2. Right wing made up crap is to keep you from looking at what actually matters, so you vote purely on primal emotions.

Basically Trump's actions will take decades to play out, and most of it is going to be bad. Combine that with AI and the continued determination to reduce people on payroll and, well, we have a lot of problems ahead of us that we are not taking seriously enough.

Technically true, but we're nowhere close. Also we have an insane amount of debt and the paths forward to addressing it are getting narrow. The world is decoupling from us. In time the dollar will not save us. We need to get serious. Much higher taxes on the rich and more effective work.

We focus on the wrong things. We celebrate rock and sports stars and other nonsense instead of jobs that actually matter. People want to grow up to be a job that a fraction of a fraction will make money on. It's dooming our future.
