I wouldn’t be happy if I lived in Cambridge. I wonder how @tonyjuniper.bsky.social feels about this.

I know I've said it before but I definitely need a longer fence 😲
It's getting to peak garden #Chough numbers now and it's only early October.
I'm guessing the daily count might top 70 this Winter.
Photos taken with my phone about 2 foot from the fence line.

Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs) are causing widespread harm to wildlife, especially birds of prey. Here's your opportunity to put pressure on the HSE to stop approving them for use - there are safer alternatives!

Deadline Tues 30 Sept!

Last Saturday @jeremybartlett.bsky.social and I cycled to Castle Acre for a weeks holiday. We visited 26 churchyards and I found pseudoscorpions at 14 of them. 31 individuals of 3 species plus dead specimens of a 4th inside one church. A 5th species was found in woodland. Photos to follow.
A row of flint cottages with red brick around the doors and windows abutting a substantial old flint wall. Two laden bicycles are propped outside. A round tower church with a flint porch and nave, some with render. the roof is mostly red tiles and slates. The churchyard is mown grass bounded by trees. A flint church with a slim square tower set amidst green grass with a patch of nettles directly in front. To the left is another area of grass with pine trees (one of them a tall dead trunk with a few stubby branches towards the top) enclosed by iron fencing. Two bicycles are leant against the railings. A church with a wide squat round tower built of carr stone and topped with a red brick octagonal extension with arched blank windows in each face - it looks like a gaol or fortified tower rather than a church. The nave is roofed in red tiles and there is a south porch covered in lime render. The church is on a slight rise and the photo is taken from the bottom of a gravel path leading up to the porch.

Disappointingly misleading headline to this BBC "verify" piece, given how the BBC polishes its verification credentials.

In fact planning approvals ie the proportion of applications for development receiving Local Planning Authority consent, has increased from 71% to 75% in the year to June 2025.

Spotted these eggs on the underside of a Beech leaf. Thinking a moth of some sort. Any ID suggestions would be much appreciated. #WildWebsWednesday
