Sneaky good is the best way to describe LLR. Some of the late-70s versions with Donna harmonizing at the end are just stunning.

I've been listening to this acoustic Cassidy all morning:

The most ridiculous thing in all of academia might be the two-day turnaround required for article proofs, especially when the deadline is X-mas eve.

When I ask undergrads where they saved a file…
a man and a woman are working on a computer and the man is asking if the files are in the computer ?

1) We need better measures. Common method variance accounts for many findings.

2) We have overly relied on crowd-sourced research for the last 15+ years and the quality of those data are very poor. We have a very real MTurk crisis on our hands.

new paper by Sean Westwood:

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

"Can large language models stand in for human participants?
Many social scientists seem to think so"

Who!? Who are those social scientists? lol

Maybe the real crisis was the failed replications we made along the way?

When you said "a few years ago", i was expecting "[insert topic] in the time of the replication crisis". Thanks for shattering my illusion that we are still in the mid-2010's =p

In a new paper, my colleagues and I set out to demonstrate how method biases can create spurious findings in relationship science, by using a seemingly meaningless scale (e.g., "My relationship has very good Saturn") to predict relationship outcomes. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
Pseudo Effects: How Method Biases Can Produce Spurious Findings About Close Relationships - Samantha Joel, John K. Sakaluk, James J. Kim, Devinder Khera, Helena Yuchen Qin, Sarah C. E. Stanton, 2025
Research on interpersonal relationships frequently relies on accurate self-reporting across various relationship facets (e.g., conflict, trust, appreciation). Y...

Great list! Love seeing that X-ray Spex in there. My only complaint is the lack of Hole but that's only because Courtney is due for her redemption arc and Live Through This was the best mainstream grunge album imo.

Michelle does it each semester and her students love it. @chops310.bsky.social has a paper on how to use it in the classroom and in the supplemental materials, there are slides and instructions.

Given the rise in mturk/prolific bots and LLM "participants", college sophomores have become the gold standard.
