Pokemon Legends ZA has the most promising development for a modern game in the series, and I've spent the last few months on a video dissecting why.

knowing the ZA video was written months ago but everything I wrote about it came true in later previews and trailers

the first time we've ever seen Zygarde be a part of the Pokemon ZA story and it fucking jumps the player

If you're at Pokémon Worlds or know someone who is, help us preserve the Legends ZA demo build by recording as MUCH as possible!!

Now that I can finally do archival again, here's a high quality scan of Ken Sugimori's Encyclopedia art from a year after Pokémon's release!!!

one thing I've seen nobody mention is Pokemon Legends ZA seems to have a real photo mode for the first time in the series

really miss when pokemon games had speed tied to your critical hit chance. they made certain guys completely centered around that concept and it fucking rules

The new Pokémon TCG Pocket Immersive Ho-Oh artwork appears to be traced from 2021 fan-art by lanjiujiu.

Entire perspective, wing shape and overall feather size are largely identical.

Holy shit, turns out the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire scenario art (with white hair Brendan) wasn't drawn by Ken Sugimori, but Hironobu Yoshida instead.

nope, but we can do it in the future!

What feels dishonest about these answers?

We've translated a 7,000-word interview on the heruclean development behind the models of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Just a single Pokémon can require up to 60 unique animations alone.
lewtwo.bsky.social
nah that's a misquote

the interview where that comes from is just Ishihara saying he thought that was gonna be his last game working on the series— plans for RS date back to before Crystal's release

Still astounded that Sugimori effortlessly made the perfect Pokemon protagonist designs nearly 25 years ago.

This AD oversaw development, led design, cutscenes etc.— Cinematic cutscenes weren't present in past Pokémon battle-sims— Stadium and PBR.

In Summer 2025, they mentored the future lead director/design staff following a major re-organization, and departed from a design role.

Around this time, a new Assistant Director was brought in (presumably GAME FREAK) who helped to "spearhead project recovery" past the alpha/beta stages.

Given typical Pokémon pre-production length, this indicates Champions has been in development for at least 2~ years.

A couple weeks ago, someone made me aware of public posts (NOT a leak) by a Pokémon Champions staff member, which revealed a lot about the state of its development from the very beginning.

Prior to January 2024, Champions' pre-production development was in a troubled state.

One frustrating aspect of Pokémon SV's Switch 2 patch was no fix to the HORRENDOUSLY slow UI, even though they've acknowledged it in past updates.

close!! that's pokemon diamond version

>only important non-Pokemon characters with no drawn key art
>appear around the map postgame literally just to waste your time
>interrupt the story just to recap the game's existing themes
what the actual FUCK was their problem
