if youre planning on dropping €599 on an xbox ally. just dont do it. a legion go s is €649 and runs a way better operating system on a way better chip and you can always dual boot windows on it if there's a windows only game you want to play

installed windows insider on my legion go so i could try the xbox full-screen experience. overall i'd say the experience is better than i thought but it's still bad at non native resolutions, as it changes the resolution of the entire OS instead of just the game. steamos and bazzite are way better.

true, i dont even know of a single device released in 2025 that has support from a well known custom rom (excluding pixels running lineage or graphene)

the xiaomi 17 looks like the most interesting one of the bunch, compact, huge battery (bigger than 17 pro actually) and the rear screen just seems like a gimmick anyway. i just utterly hate miui/hyperos, its bloated, buggy and its missing features like full screen gestures with third party launchers

also im pretty sure basically any AOSP development for flagship xiaomi phones is dead at this point. i havent even seen custom ROMs for the newer poco phones which used to be super popular in custom ROM communities (my previous phone was a poco f3 running lineageos)

yeah its like even worse than in the MIUI days i think. you can only unlock one phone a year and you need to apply for permission, wait to get approved, and then you only get 14 days to unlock it. pretty sure you also need a xiaomi account "in good standing" whatever that means

xiaomi 17 looks dope as fuck. they managed to fit a 7000mah battery in a 6.3" phone the size of an iphone 17. it does 100W PPS charging and its got the snapdragon 8 elite gen 5. now if only it didn't run HyperOS and/or xiaomi still let you unlock the bootloader... it'd be the perfect phone for me

the original ally with the z1 extreme is actually more powerful than the $600 xbox ally. no one should be buying that when the og ally is $400 and it can run the same full screen xbox experience or even steamos. its genuinely such a stupid product

either way the z1 extreme is a lot better than the z2a/steam deck. my og legion go gets like +20-70% perf vs my steam deck. the ally s will probably get great battery life like the steam deck but i dont expect it to perform well in recent titles because the steam deck really doesn't.

z2 extreme (xbox ally x, legion go 2, claw) = 8 zen 5 cores, 16 rdna3.5 cus

wattage can vary but afaik most of those run at 30w except for the steam deck which runs at 15, dunno about the ally s.

the z2 go is quite a bit better than the z2 a. amd's naming is pretty awful so heres the specs
z2a (xbox ally)/steam deck soc = 4 zen 2 cores, 8 rdna2 cus
z2 go (legion go s) = 8 zen 3 cores, 12 rdna2 cus
z1 extreme (og ally/ally x, legion go) = 8 zen 4 cores, 12 rdna3 cus

the ally does have a 1080p display but like. youre not really gonna run many games at 1080p on that chip, i dont think the upgrade is worth 2x the cost. if the xbox ally was $400 itd actually make sense
