The world is a mess, so here's a picture of my very smug little cat sitting upon the first edition Grapes of Wrath I found in a neighborhood little library.

Selene has the tortitude in spades.

A Clown Car of Incompetence. A Festival of Ignorance.
Trump risked American lives to kidnap Maduro just to have him replaced by one of Maduro's authoritarian cronies. This has nothing to do with drugs or ousting an authoritarian leader. It's a clown car of incompetence in an effort to enrich oil companies.

Elitism in Medicine: Every time I have to interact with leaders in my field, I am reminded that I shall always be a trespasser in the professional world, no matter what credentials I may hold.

There was a time when I might have been sad about it. Now I'm primarily amused.

Easy answer: Illusions by Richard Bach. The contents and my relationship to them, however, are among several reasons why I will probably never run for or be elected to public office.

The AI oligarchy is so laughably out of touch. Super excited for 22 yos graduating today, into this economy they've created? 2 day work week? Yall planning on paying people full time for 16 hrs/week? On what planet?

Well, probably Mars, based on this article. Cute.
OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman says in 10 years time college graduates will be working 'some completely new, exciting, super well-paid' job in space | Fortune
While Bill Gates has said the 2-day workweek could come within the next decade, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says Gen Alpha college graduates will be too busy planet-hopping.

Shout out to Scrivener, a text editing and writing program that basically only gives writers useful features and thus is admirably AI free.

As I was driving along the river flanked by Douglas Firs with a view of the hills beneath layers of fog, I couldn't help but appreciate the casual beauty of the PNW.

The rest of the day was out of hand, but at least the commute was a delight.

Spent some time having a serious conversation with a 4th year resident about professionalism last week.

Glanced at the news about things the president has done, said, and immortalized in plaques at the White House.

Professionalism may be a losing battle, yo.

So well-said. Better off waiting for the infinite monkeys to type up Shakespeare.
When I hear AI proponents say things like "I can't wait to put in one prompt and get a new season of my favorite show," I don't know how to begin explaining that can't happen with how these things work.

It's like going into IKEA and said "I can't wait to get the wardrobe that takes me to Narnia."

I never considered being a teacher of any kind prior to becoming an attending physician. Working with trainees continues to be one of the most beautiful and unexpected parts of being in medicine.

Hubs had a procedure at the hospital today and the nurse, who knows me, added logical discharge instructions: “If you’re not feeling well, consult your wife”. 🤣🤣🤣

Dear @nba.com,

Peacock-exclusive NBA games is a mistake. Letting NBC prop up its streaming platform with your content is profoundly dumb. But what do you care so long as the checks clear, right? Still, allow me to explain, if you care to hear, the kind of fan you're alienating with this policy. 1/

Walk out to observe the hive entrance. Healthy buzz from within. Met by a guard who has strong opinions about my proximity.

That's right, ma'am. You tell me to shove off. We need that kind of sass in this apiary.

This talk of Housing First "failure" perplexes me. As an inpatient psychiatrist, at least 1/3 patients I see are unhoused. Waitlists for supported housing are months or years long - useless.

Where is all this secret housing? In ~10 years of practice, I've yet to see it.

Here's to the quiet-but-mighty community hospitals out there informing their staff that any law enforcement officer, including ICE officers, require a valid warrant signed by a judge to enter patient care spaces.

May we all follow only *lawful* orders.
