It's incredibly corrosive to the ability of agencies (and society at large) to operate if the executive branch can simply decide to ignore Congress. Having reliable processes is essential to operations of bureaucracies, but Vought et al. don't care. And it's outrageous.

boy wework sure is a pain to deal with, the people in the buildings are nice but try and open a support ticket and it goes ignored for weeks and then when it does get picked up they email you in the middle of the night and direct you to the sales team

I will go further and say that people using the "r"-word are hoping that bringing it back opens the door to bringing back the "n"-word, and is strongly correlated with the people who want to carve off trans rights as a stepping stone to claw back gay rights in general
I assume anyone who says this word is probably okay with the n-word, too. Or, more charitably, doesn’t understand why they shouldn’t say it just that saying it would get them in a lot of trouble.

it’s not that my work is a particularly bad place, it’s that really frustrating strategic decisions have left us in a place that I warned of 12 months ago but hadn’t yet established myself as The One Who Knows

This "conflicting accounts" narrative of the BBC's is a much bigger problem than they seem to think.
The huge issue is not false balance - it's that they're NOT reporting the biggest story of today: the fact the US Government is lying about its own forces killing a US citizen.

This is, in my opinion, not only the correct moral/ethical/legal position but also the correct political framing. Everyone can see the agency is out of control; everyone can see that it is constantly violating human rights. "Scrap it and start over" is the moderate position.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."
