What a treat to represent AromaPrime for this article in The Guardian!

I discuss how themed smells are developed, with a focus on scary attractions. 👻

The article will be printed on Saturday. 👃

Experience: I create smells that scare people
The scents that get people gagging the most are usually bin juice or rotting fish

The Jaws ride at USJ includes a moment where the boat floats into a dark shed. The water is black and the air smells of fuel. This sensory effect heightens the anticipation.

The surrounding town of Amity smells of cooking food, which suggests the busy presence of the unseen residents.

They might not sound appetising, but I am pleased to see how engaging these historically-inspired smells have made the Victorian Gun Deck at Nothe Fort! 🐭

Brett Helquist has drawn me 'in the style of A Series of Unfortunate Events'!

This is how I might look as a member of V.FD., or as a doomed guardian, or as a villainous actor, or as a bidder in a fashionable auction, or as a hotel guest on a secret mission, or all five, depending on my preference.

People keep saying I look like adult Klaus Baudelaire, so I decided to disguise myself as Klaus to celebrate the 25th anniversary edition of The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket.

AromaPrime's smoky smells were used at Jonathan Ross' Halloween parties 🔥

As it happened, AromaPrime founder Fred Dale had appeared on Ross' own show!

My first time seeing one of my books in a window!

Weymouth's Timewalk is currently available at Weymouth Museum, displayed right beside one of its characters! 😸

You can SMELL the point-and-click game Foolish Mortals by @inklingwood.bsky.social!

It was a delightful opportunity to develop smells, through @aromaprime.bsky.social, for players to sniff as they explore.

Yesterday, I experienced Sticks & Bones' exceptional escape room!

I was pleased to contribute some early puzzle designs, as well as three pirate portraits. Here are the portraits on display...

For today's train journey, my rucksack smells of cigars and Victorian soldiers' sleeping quarters.

After washing empty scent oil bottles, I rinsed them and poured the water in the toilet.

Now the toilet is fragrant. I have eau de toilette.

Interesting to see how entertainment industries are tackling sensory-based sensitivities including intense smells and sounds. @aromaprime.bsky.social doing a great job as always with the various themed smellscapes! Examples from Alton Towers this weekend.

Running a test, and now the parlour smells like the Alton Manor graveyard 🪦

It wasn't until I finished editing this that I realised it's probably incorrect to call her 'Antoinette' like it's a surname. More importantly, what did she smell like? 🍰

@aromaprime.bsky.social supported AVM Curiosities in the development of a smell for the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Yesterday, I was excited to find smell stations in Harrods!

A staff member told me that they had been inspired by smell stations in a Bordeaux wine museum.

Visual representations of the smells featured are seen within bell jars. The smells actually come from within the table structures. 💨
