'Embroidery.' (1817) The paintings of Georg Friedrich Kersting have proved perennial objects of admiration, not only for their atmospheric use of colour, their meditative serenity and (what we all need from time to time) a sense of seclusion from the outside world.

Attention Dwight H Perkins nerds:
Green flyer with a photo of Dwight H Perkins just in case you thought this was about the guy you sat next to in third grade who picked his nose. It’s not that Dwight.

Text reads:

Chicago’s Irving park road is becoming a real hub of fiber arts these days! #knitting #weaving #spinning #dyeing studios, galleries, and more. When the world is full of horrors we need community & the arts more than ever. Check out some of these new spots
Map of Chicago’s Irving park road on the northwest side shows a dot near kimball on the east end and a dot on long to the west, with the route 80 bus connecting them. View of the author beginning to knit from a white ball of yarn in front of a green woven table cloth and a coffee mug
It's hard not be dubious about a Maigret who is not wearing a fedora! Sacrilege! But I was just over on FB reading viewer comments, and, as someone pointed out, it is necessary to "interpret" Maigret for a younger audience if Masterpiece is to survive.
I found it hard to feel that an "updated" Maigret could be satisfying, but I notice that the rating for IMDB is 7.2. I just watched the first two episodes, a two-parter, and I found the second episode more satisfying than the first. I think it is growing on me.
I did not initially realize this, but this series has not been released in the UK yet. It was produced by Playground, not the BBC or ITV. It is filmed in Budapest. I thought the Bruno Cremer series was filmed in Prague and Finland, but I may well be wrong.
"Maigret is an unconventional young detective with something to prove, relentless in his investigations, with an uncanny ability to get under the skin of the criminals he is chasing and a matchless knowledge of Paris and its inhabitants."
I was under the impression that this was produced in the UK.
"Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim) stars as Jules Maigret, who heads the elite police unit known as La Crim, responsible for investigating all serious crime in and around Paris."
"Maigret" is debuting tonight on Channel 11.
I had a nice experience with an Oak Park librarian today
She was pleasant, helpful, and so well-informed
