"It took a moment for her to realize where she was, memories from before settling in as she gingerly sits up. She reaches a hand up to the right side of her face, fingertips brushing against thick woven bandages. Right. A whirring back to life that she heard all too late, bullets clinking against the stone pathway. A turn of her head, too slow and too horrified, blade catching against bone and tissue. Her body and face, the pavement. It was enough to make her contemplate laying back down, to avoid the aftermath of failure, slumping into a pillow and pretending to still be asleep. The outside world seemed peaceful enough for now, anyway. It was only when sinking back into the warmth of the bed that she noticed she had shifted the weight of something else— someone else, rather— leaning against the side of it, head bent awkwardly against the mattress in a fit of sleep that clearly was not intentional. Ah, I'm in fer it now."
