A bluebird takes flight after watching everyone feeding on the seed in the snow. I love that I have all of these birds in my yard. These are bluebirds that were born in the boxes in my yard.

Australia’s Banksia has fruits that are serotinous, opening after fire. Wildfires clear competing vegetation + deposit nutrients in the soil = good conditions for seedling establishment. 📷: Banksia ornata by davidsando CCBYNC4. #Proteaceae #serotiny #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

One of my favourite winter flowering plants is the Winter Flowering Cherry (Prunus × subhirtella)

The rose pruning continues with the congestion within the shrub roses being removed and their size reduced by a third. #RoseWednesday

My first #SixOnSaturday of 2026 definitely has a wintery feel, but there’s still some colour in the gardens.

I have an Algerian Iris, a crisp down, frozen waterfall, Snowdrops in the Snow, water droplets on Euphorbia and Garrya flowers.

More hellebores looking amazingly good today, even in the rain.

Favorite hybridizers: Arthur Bliss. 'Lady Byng' from 1922 is lovely in shades of rosy lilac, with some soft gold at the hafts. The lady in question was the wife of the 12th Gov.-General of Canada. I only had this one a short time, so only a couple of photos. 🌱
