1960s buildings are the worst for plaster on the hard in our area. The local authority has invested significantly in new schools over past 10-15 years and there are very few older buildings left. We are lucky!

Poor acoustic environment in classrooms and nurseries is my pet peeve! Designed by people who don’t know what it’s like to be in a classroom. We are lucky to have v few open plan schools but some huge nurseries and older buildings with plaster on the hard walls and no soft furnishings or carpets.

The first paper from Shengfu’s PhD! A scoping review on recast dosage for children with #DLD. With increased attention to how much we do of what we do, this is an important contribution @ashajournals.bsky.social

Here is my evidence-informed resource I shared at the #NAPLIC25 conference yesterday. Top tips to help settings support communication. Essential for pupils with #DevLangDis & beneficial to all 💜 Feel free to share with others ☺️
A series of 4 infographics developed using materials from the 'Better Communication Research Programme' inc. 'Communication Supporting Classrooms (CSC) tool' (Dockrell et al., 2012). https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/better-communication-research-programme

The 3 parts of a Communication Supportive Environment

Help children & young people's Speech, Language and Communication grow through the communicative environment your setting provides. Take a look at this collection of four infographics for some of the key features of each part.
1/4

Communication Supporting Environments benefit ALL pupils!

Language Learning Opportunities

Plan daily activities across the curriculum that support the development of language and communication.

Language Learning Environments

The way the physical environment is set up and managed can help or hinder language and communication.

Language Learning Interactions

The way that adults in your setting communicate with pupils makes a huge difference. With effective strategies consistently in place, pupils will understand more, follow instructions better and answer questions more successfully.

Such an interesting day at #Naplic25 with reflections for practice with my own caseload as well as next steps for our service #DevLangDis
lindsaycslt.bsky.social
Really interesting to consider and also important to recognise the vulnerabilities this can present.

Most children with #DevLangDis saw friendship as a temporary play relationship. Children wanted friends but lots of variation in how hard it is to make friends. Many have a 'young' understanding of friendship, but did not see DLD as a barrier. #NAPLIC25

Incredible presentations by two very talented and tenacious young people, Tanaya and Abraz, on their lived experience of DLD 👏🏻 highlighting the importance of a diagnosis and understanding of needs #NAPLIC #DevLangDis #SLCN

Thank you all so much! Will have a lovely time checking out these suggestions. I find books are a great step towards generalisation for grammar work as well as narrative, and include more varied vocab than ready made resources. Wordless good for hyperlexic children who get stuck on the text.

#slpeeps does anyone have any recommendations for wordless picture books that can be used in language therapy please?

New open access paper: Vocabulary interventions for children with developmental language disorder: a systematic review doi.org/10.3389/fpsy... Looks at four types of Rx: phonological and/or semantic, story-based, story-based with semantic and/or phonological, and orthography-based. #DevLangDis #SLP

Wonderful! I’m currently working on my dissertation on vocab intervention as I found it really hard to be clear on the evidence base as a practitioner. A much needed systematic review. Thank you!
