My career began in electronics & now it's in IT. I talk nonsense here about my hobby stuff: Electronics, STEM, IoT, Meshtastic, Vintage 8-bit computers. My dog is called Holly & she's much cuter than me | West Sussex, UK | Views are my own humble opinions.
On a train on a VPN controling my house lights via my smart watch, through Node-RED.

Two devices are MQTT smart plugs and the other is a ZigBee lamp.

Why?

Um .. I'll get back to you on that.

Next step .. request room temps and turn on heating boost. I wonder if I can do geofencing.

I managed to side load Christian Mader's httpclient app onto my Samsung smart watch and serve the config file, then take in http requests, using Node-RED to control MQTT and ZigBee devices. This deserves a write up and I'll share flows and notes in my repo on Codeberg.

Yeah, I have the springs to bend regular copper pipe, but didn't fancy buying a 3m length when I only needed about 30cm. Copper ain't cheap!

How's everyone's tech and gadget Sunday going!? Here's my hack of the day ..the pipe fractured on the bend and sent out a jet of water. A quick trip to Screwfix and some amateur plumbing ensued. Not what I had planned for today!

I remember them well. We used lots of them in flight simulator visual systems.

I worked for a Tandon distie. Met Jugi Tandon a few times.

Nice PCs. I opened one from stock & there was a big RS comp. screwdriver among the AT slots. The owner's name was on the handle so I called the techs & told them to tell Calvin I had his screwdriver! His Line Manager was not amused.

The ATTINY1614 and ATTINY3216 are pretty awesome if you need low-cost on-board computing.

Not sure a petition will do much but it's a bit of a no-brainer, isn't it? If the member of parliament who *you* voted for changes allegiance, then it should just be a matter of course that there's a by-election, right? It's not like 99% of people are voting for the candidate, and not the party.
🚨WOW! Now closing on 88,000 signatures! The Petition calling for by-elections to be called automatically when MPs defect to another party is getting so close to the 100,000 needed.

Let’s keep going!

I do appreciate the touchscreen as a scroll and select option on my Zenbook Flip running Fedora, especially when it's flipped into tablet / portrait mode for reading long docs and PDFs.

My work laptop doesn't have a touchscreen & I frequently try finger scrolling only to remember it can't do that.

The café owner had smashed the world record for the longest time continuously making sandwiches, and their support team suggested they could stop now if they wanted.

"Not yet", came the reply, "I'm on a roll".

Yep. The week's been about 80% meetings + getting incorrect account setups fixed so I can login and do stuff. I've raised 6 support tickets so far!

I'm getting the same vibes from my new (week 1 too) Win 11 laptop.

Typing this on my personal Asus Zenbook flip, running Fedora.

Picked up my company Win 11 laptop today (new job) and it has naked (no plugins) Edge on it. Surfed to sort out a tech how-to and OMG what an ad overload shitshow some sites are. Back home it benefits from local DNS with adblock (Openwrt). I knew things were bad, but...

I bought an SN76477 sound generator back in the day (I must have been about 12) and spent time pouring over the datasheet to make up various circuits to produce different sound effects.

I think I have the original chip somewhere.

Whenever I am writing a computer program, or debugging one, I like to do it accompanied by a large glass of red wine.

I call it vine coding.
