And yet for some reason, insurance doesn't count teeth as bones 🤔

Scary/wicked cool.💥

Yeahhhh. I fell down some stairs but luckily they think it will heal without surgery.

I know it's ancient tech at this point, but I will never not be wowed by xrays. It's your bones! You can see INSIDE TO YOUR BONES. What a time to be alive.
An X-ray film of a left foot. The toe to the right of the pinky is broken in three places.

I audibly groaned when she got handed the duffle bag.

Broke my foot and I'm anticipating a lot of stationary time to kill in the near future. Send me your recs for the last excellent book you read or movie you watched. (Nothing medically scary, please 😅)

I'm a lifelong jinx for the Phills and my act of goodwill to the people of Philadelphia is that I did not watch any of the games last night, just lurked on social updates. They did all that on their own. 💀

Hear it whispered by strangers commiserating on the bus. Feel it hanging in the air as people scroll through their phones in line for the streetmeat carts in center city. Even our DA held town halls, where instructions were shared for what to do and how to prepare.

Not if, but when.

And the delay - is it a sign of respect? Fear? Acknowledgement of what we can (and will) do when provoked? Climb poles. Throw batteries. Destroy robots. Turn our expressway into a swimming pool.

Watching the federal government send troops into fairly tame metros while living in a city with a reputation for its mayhem even when we’re happy is odd. Is there an order of importance to the deployments? Are we being judged against others for levels of…. Something?
A painted image of the French revolution. Men with bayonets in period appropriate clothing fight. Lady Liberty is center front. Her face has been replaced crudely with a cutout of the mascot Gritty's face.

Why did no one warn me that a significant part of aging is looking down at random appendages, finding weird bruises, and having zero memory of how they happened.

I've been experimenting with BlueSky lists and so far the organizer in me is loving them. For my writing and submitting followers, here's a list of every lit mag I've come across on BS, which gives you a specific feed for their calls. Who am I missing? bsky.app/profile/did:...

One is flashier, more sensational to memorialize on front pages. The other, a reminder of the mortality of man that cant be responded to with military bravado, is swept under the rug. Does only violence qualify life to be mourned on a national scale? Is ignored sickness not its own form of violence?
lisadellaporta.bsky.social
The theme I can’t help but point out is that anyone sick is seen as disabled. Society considers their vanishing as acceptable, regardless of how that disability came about. People in the towers died together from a physical disaster, not piecemeal as their bodies failed and microscopic invaders won.
lisadellaporta.bsky.social
First responders who ran into collapsing buildings and the hell that came after, now suffering from unspeakable disease as a direct result of the then unknown air they were breathing, are underfunded, abandoned, and largely ignored.
lisadellaporta.bsky.social
I look back at the past 5 years and have a hard time accepting that American lives -or any lives, really- matter to Americans. 103,400,000 + Americans have died from COVID, a disease still present, still a threat to life, and now actively ignored in favor of capitalism and ease of entertainment.
lisadellaporta.bsky.social
Just under 3000 people died, a number that we mourn every year like clockwork with ceremonies and moments of silence and flag displays.

And yet.
