Mayors met in DC this week . I accepted an award for #Spokane, met with our Senators, and exchanged ideas with fellow mayors.
Cities are on the frontlines of an important battle. I wish I could say Minneapolis will be the last city facing this—but we won’t be. Local leaders have to speak up and step up. Our democracy depends on it.

Thanks to the U.S. Conference of Mayors for having me.

I set up this feed to post good things happening in #Spokane, which I will continue to do, but it’s also important to use all outlets to make sure the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration are known, so they can be challenged.

Border Patrol detained a 10-year-old Spokane child and her father. DHS keeps saying they are focused on criminals, but this family has no criminal history. It's time for Congress to step up and ensure some accountability.

A beautiful haunting film with references to and shots of #Spokane. I’m proud to have sponsored the original film incentive legislation in Washington state, which has now been expanded and provided support to #TrainDreams
A glorious, transcendent film. An elegiac meditation on life & death that is both delicate & profound. Train Dreams is a work of art.

Finding an antidote for trying times — and fuel for hope — among the pictographs of the West
It is an unseasonably warm January day. I am standing at the base of a sheer sandstone wall near the San Juan River in Southeastern Utah, looking up. Indigenous art

#Spokane young people speak out.
We are posted up outside LC High School here in Spokane, where hundreds of students have walked out of their class in protest of ICE. LC is one of six schools across the Spokane participating in the walkout, which was organized at a lunch table last Thursday.

My op-ed with Brian Henning, Director of the Climate Institute @gonzagauniversity.bsky.social #Spokane
Our community deserves healthier homes and climate-ready infrastructure. Even without the support we were promised by the federal government, @spokanecity.org and Gonzaga Climate Institute will keep pushing toward that future because resilience is not optional. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...
