Hi! I’m the bestselling author of Elatsoe & A Snake Falls to Earth & Sheine Lende. I <3 lifting heavy weights, playing video games, & writing stories. Sry I don’t check DMs. She/her. Lipan Apache.

My article with The Texas Observer is now online! The title means “return to the land of many houses,” which is our (Lipan Apache) word for home. In this article, I write about the rematriation of an elder (my relative) who lived in KÍŁÁÁHÍÍ about 750 years ago. www.texasobserver.org/lipan-apache...
I’m working on a great big essay about my family tree, particularly because we’ve done a lot of digging this year as part of Federal recognition documentation. It probably won’t be done until March or April, but it’s in the kiln.

Here EVERY two hours, trying to meet the daily emergency needs of six families. Recently that's meant food, healthcare + surgery, infant supplies, tents, and more. What an honor that we can make such a difference, right?

SOON, I’ll start working on the Adult Book. Trying to devise an elevator pitch here.

After L’s heroic ancestor is reburied, an ancient rivalry awakens. Can L—a depressed millennial nobody who works at a magic shop—outmatch a legendary trickster?

Inspired by my family & love of stage magic.

Fellow Calcuttan writer/editor Archita Mittra is in desperate need of financial help. She recently lost her father, her home was damaged in the recent rains, & her mother's in hospital. They don't have insurance, & she's a freelancer. I can vouch for her. Please share widely & donate:

This week—learning that my book was banned & confronting state-imposed censorship of concepts like “diversity” and “oppression”—have been discouraging. I got a new book coming & don’t know what the future brings. BUT. The more The Powers That Be try to silence me, the louder I’ll become.

Elatsoe is not just one of the best YA books I’ve read. It is one of the best stories I’ve ever read.

I did not expect That Thread to go viral, but I’m glad it’s being shared - part of my goal was to raise awareness about the impact of HB261 (Utah) on education.

Last month, Weber State University cancelled a conference *on censorship* after it became clear that all of the presenters (including me) would have to censor their material to comply with HB 261. I applaud your integrity and am here to commiserate—it’s a terrible law with terrible consequences.

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.
