My article with The Texas Observer is now online! The title means “return to the land of many houses,” which is our (Lipan Apache) word for home. In this article, I write about the rematriation of an elder (my relative) who lived in KÍŁÁÁHÍÍ about 750 years ago. www.texasobserver.org/lipan-apache...
Screenshot of article lede and a photo of Darcie’s back as she looks over the traditional burial ground in Presidio Texas. Lede says “An Elder is restored to the Lipan Apache people more than 750 years after her death”.

I‘m traveling a lot this week. First in Kansas (the Gunn center was awesome!!) Then in Utah for the Wasatch book fest. Tomorrow to Minnesota. Something happened yesterday at dinner that made me really angry, and I’m trying to be chill and stuff, but it’s difficult.

Hey, a reminder that I’m looking for work. I’m an award winning writer and editor serving the community. My book Thyme Travellers: An Anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction just won an Ignyte award! I’m looking for clients, and would love to work in narrative games.

Get in touch with me!

I feel more love for self because of love for them, if that makes sense?

My family has been doing deep ancestry research (particularly on Grandpa’s side) to compile documentation for Important Things. There’s a lot of difficult history (it’s how I learned some of my ancestors were enslaved) but also comfort in understanding where I come from. Their stories flow into mine

In other words, when there’s been conflict, it’s ’cause other people have a problem with me. I don’t have a problem with myself. This is a very personal thing, of course. I only speak from my own experience.

Growing up, my parents were very loving and supportive and taught me that I am both, not half. I am grateful for that.

As a biracial person (Lipan Apache/Irish American), I’ve personally never felt “torn between two worlds” internally, but I have felt excluded by others. Bullying was bad growing up. Ah, the struggle for acceptance! I make my own way these days. Part of being older & wiser.

My beautiful parents <3

Please share: 24-HOUR BIRTHDAY DRIVE 💡My ONE wish today is to help high school students in Gaza City take their exams 💛

We’re matching 100 to help Spark Space host these kids with internet & electricity—under bombs and ground invasion. Match their bravery.

A golden graphic titled “Sabr for Spark Space.” The background has a watercolor effect. The text says: “Spark Space is bringing free internet and electricity to dozens of high school students for their tawjihi exams this week—among bombing, mass displacement, and ground invasion in Gaza City, this is an act of resistance to ethnic cleansing. We're meeting their sabr (patience) with our boldness: help keep the lights on. linktr.ee/sparkworkspace.” Next to the text is an illustration of a cactus pear in yellow and green.
