Dinner discovery; chicken cottage pie!

This was a 1 skillet meal. Chicken, carrot, peas, brown gravy, & mashed potato. The smell of the broiler-crisped potatoes drew my teenager out of their lair and got double thumbs up from the household picky eater.

10/10 will make again.

First uninterrupted WFH day I’ve had in a while. Somebunny (*ahem* Gwen *ahem*) spent the day napping at my feet so she could periodicially nudge my ankle to ask for scritches. 💜💜💜

Adopt, don’t shop.
Amazing creatures like Gwen are just waiting to blossom under the attention of people like you.

This story is too good to not be read by, well, EVERYBODY!
With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

Our apple tree is rather exuberant this year so the rabbits have been enjoying fresh branches and leaves as snacks. There are tiny apples about the size of my thumbnail too, but rabbits shouldn’t have much sugar so I only let them have 1 or 2 apples per branch.

Sometimes you buy flowers for your partner just to make them smile.

Today’s adventure: taking Gwen NoFear for her vaccine booster. Gwen hates carriers and car rides. Probably because of how often she had unpleasant vet visits to get treatment for the eye injury she had when she was found roaming the streets. Putting her in one of these pet seats worked great!

Jewish orgs Keshet and the Hebrew Free Loan Association are giving out interest-free loans to LGBTQ+ folks who need to re-locate but can’t afford it. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE JEWISH.

“The idea that people were having to pick up and flee their homes was something that resonated Jewishly.”
Persecuted for being LGBTQ+ in Trump country, they now have a chance to start over someplace new
Keshet and the Hebrew Free Loan Society are fighting persecution by offering loans to those who need to flee,

This Disability Pride Month, remember that the teams that serve the American people are filled with wonderful, brilliant, creative and critically necessary disabled folks. They add insurmountable value to our workplace and communities and we wouldn’t be great without them!

“Ah! I need solitude. I have come forth to this hill at sunset to see the forms of the mountains in the horizon—to behold and commune with something grander than man.”

The non-profit I work for laid off more than 50 people today because of lost NIH funding. I feel guilty but glad I wasn’t one of them.

Time to unplug for a couple days. Too bad I can’t take the rabbits with me.

Some “weeds” are just as pretty as the cultivated plants we grow.

Ted decided to prove that he could army crawl under the wardrobe. As you can tell from the look on his face, he is very proud of himself for this accomplishment.

Noodle and Gwen checking each other out from a safe distance with a very curious (but contained) Pants in the background.

Did you know that while they are communal, rabbits need to establish their place in a hierarchy in order to share space space?

Holy cow I would not have expected lychee, raspberry and rose water to taste so good together! Lychee is a little floral and tart and the raspberry’s tartness enhances that. The rose just blends right in, creating something fruity and delicate in the best way

I often think of the orchestra who wanted to hire diversely through having screens for auditions - they still needed to put down carpet so they weren’t unconsciously prejudiced by hearing women’s heels on the floor. I don’t know how we put down carpet for genre or disability, but I’d love to see it.

The administration has ended the LGBTQ specific services provided by the national suicide hotline. Trevor Project’s suicide hotline is still live. Pass this around. People in distress need to know who they can trust, who they can talk to, because it sure as hell isn’t our government.

Got a passport with the wrong name/gender? Make sure you check the answer to this post.
Any word on how this impacts people whose passports have been forcibly reverted?

Middle of the night ice cream flavor thoughts:
- Grilled pineapple sorbet
- Maple cinnamon French toast ice cream

Opinions?

For reference, I’m the girl who once made green eggs & ham ice cream. (Included poached egg, basil, and crunchy bacon bits.)

I am not easily intimidated.

Isfahan ice cream test run. (Raspberry, lychee, Rose water.) Not sure about this one yet. Might add mascarpone to balance the flavor or rework it into a sorbet recipe.

Still want to do something chocolate, only question is what would be new and different. Suggestions welcome, no matter how weird!

Happy adoption day and welcome to the family, Gwen. After more than 2 years as our foster, we’re proud to foster fail the heck out of you and we promise the rest of your days will look like this one: safe and loved.

Some days it’s the little things that keep you going. Like a juvenile bunny outside the office as you’re getting ready to leave.
