I’ve been living without a phone for the past week or so and tbh, it’s good. If I didn’t need one for work I’d be ditching the whole concept.

Frequently feel like shit for no reason? Write characters who suffer terribly and you can turn your overreactions into accurate descriptions of actual pain!

Upside of leaving early for work: forced to write as I have nothing else to do before my shift.

Downside: I'm sitting outside as there's nowhere else to sit and I'm FUCKING COLD

better yet, consider unsubscribing from HBO/Max the week before her show comes out (& if you rejoin, wait until the HP season is over). it's not enough to *not* watch it – HBO needs to know it will hurt their bottom line if they continue producing it
if you care about trans people, do not watch the new jk rowling show. don’t even hate watch it or you will be funding this new intentionally transphobic organization. we cannot allow hateful people take away more of our rights

Side note, "author" is a word that it took me an embarrassingly long time as a teenager to remember was not one of the ones that US spelling deleted a U from, and that it is not in fact "authour" in the rest of the world. (I never said editour or actour or anything. No idea what my problem was)

I've never understood the "working on 8 WIPs at once" type memes. If I abandon a piece of work for too long, I feel so guilty, like I'm neglecting my infant daughter. I can handle twins, but that's about it. I can't leave them alone until they're grown and finished. #writesky #authorsky

Best bit of editing advice I can give for authors is to read your work out loud. If you're like me, your brain will autocorrect mistakes that you'll catch aloud, + it usually sounds better "in your head" and you can better observe how it really sounds out loud. #writesky #authorsky

Knowing that procrastination is fear/anxiety/shame can help somewhat. However, it doesn't affect the fact that I don't *wanna*

Writing Tip:
Just because something has 'always been done a certain way' doesn't mean that you have to do it that way too. Your writing doesn't have to follow every rule or convention. But it's often a good idea to know why a rule exists before you go breaking it.

I swear a good half of the time writing advice is either irrelevant or garbage. Write whatever genre, mixed or not, that you want!
Reading a How To Write Crime book that advises people in the strongest terms not to mix genres, & I cannot stress enough what utter bollocks that is

1. Genre is predominantly a sales & marketing category, not a concrete & immutable thing

2. How do you think new ideas come about, in textual terms?

Of course writers have a bond with cats. They love sitting on our keyboards and preventing us from writing. They've correctly identified that our favourite activity is to not write when we're meant to be writing. #writesky #writingcommunity

My dear fellow writers, you’re awesome.

You’re not lazy, nor talentless, nor distracted, nor unmotivated.

You’re just fine. You’re enough.

It’s okay. You deserve a break sometimes too, and enjoy the little things in life.

It feels good to get back to writing after a leave for surgery. The only problem is not fucking remembering what was going on last.

Unpopular #writer opinion: being "grammatically incorrect" can be a good thing, when you're actually just using non-standard dialects. I like to write how the character might think, and yes, they probably split infinitives and say "gonna". #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

You made it this far, and I’m glad you’re still here. You deserve better, life doesn’t stop here.

People really need to understand that star ratings for indie books are exactly like delivery apps: if you're rating less than five stars, you're not giving a good rating, and the career of the person you're rating will suffer.

"writers need to have an active presence on social media" if my presence is to be any degree of active at all it's going to be unhinged. I have no energy in my soul for hinged actions

Legit did have to get a reminder that my book is releasing today. I'm recovering from surgery and the painkillers have done a number on my memory.
