I am a super fan of rationality, the scientific method, and benefits to humanity. I dislike most other things.
This is huge news. I’ve known several graduates of Siebel, and what a massive loss for the American craft beer community at a brutal time. Just one more slice of something that actually made America great, which Donald Trump has ruined.

Since 1872, the famed Siebel Institute of Technology has taught generations of beer brewers the fine art and science of the craft in Chicago. But in a statement on

1) There are thousands of state employees doing fantastic work like finding fraud, keeping workplaces safe, and figuring out how to maximize Medicaid funds, to name a tiny sliver of what they do; and
2) Tobias Read is doing just fine running the SoS office and conducting audits.

An 18yo US citizen, surrounded by eight masked, armed agents of the state, taken into custody, not read his rights, not offered a chance to contact a lawyer, proof of citizenship ignored, handcuffed so tightly he later required medical attention.

Profoundly, profoundly anti-American shit.

This is some of the most vile, depraved shit I’ve ever seen, but is excellent reporting from Phil Williams. If Hell exists, there’s a whole wing awaiting this Minadeo prick.

This is so depressing. I worked closely with 2 amazing DOJ attorneys in the financial fraud unit, and both are now gone (1 retired and 1 joined a state AG’s office), so I had a vague sense of what was happening there. But it’s so much worse than I knew. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I worked for Rogue Ales & Spirits for many years, and my understanding is that it has undergone some pretty radical changes since I left (which is almost certainly for the good). But even given the state of the craft beer industry, this is still pretty shocking. lincolnchronicle.org/rogue-brewer...

Not sure I agree, and here’s an example. If there was one m-fer in national politics who was willing to pull that pin, it was Ross Perot. And he managed 20% as an independent! So I think it probably depends on the circumstances and candidate, but it can be done.
It is not the case.

While Trump’s ballroom is going to be gaudy and stupid, I truly do not understand why everyone is so enraged about it. What was so special about the East Wing? Who gives a shit if it’s torn down? Most of us were never going to go there anyway.

All I think of when I see this picture is The Weakerthans:

“And up above us all
leaning into sky
a golden business boy
Will watch the North End die
And sing ‘I love this town’
Then let his arcing wrecking ball proclaim
I hate Winnipeg”
