At Reach Academy Hanworth Park we’re building a school where teachers enjoy teaching, can grow their career & have the strongest of relationships with our pupils & families.

How?

1. Character education: behaviour is exemplary as we invest heavily in pupils’ character. We take nothing…
High expectations, warm-strict and school fun enough to get 98% attendance last year.

Find out how on my latest blogpost for Reach Out below!

In 2015, I decided to invest time in learning what the schools with the best exam outcomes do. It was probably the most important decision I made in my career. These schools have a lot more in common than they do differences & many of these things can be adopted straight away in any context.

We need so much more of this sort of positivity in the national conversation about education

Look at this video of our children talking about the books they love! ALL our children now love reading but only 36% of them were reading at or above their chronological reading age in Sept. One of the major successes of this founding year!

Really proud of the progress our Year 7s have made with reading this year! In September only 37% were at or above their reading age compared with 75% now. Short thread below on how we have achieved this. 🧵

We’ve now completed our final Year 7 reading test for our founding cohort.

In Sept 18% joined us 5 years below their reading age, now 1 child. Just 37% were at or above their reading age now 75%.

Hear from @lilystaff.bsky.social about the amazing progress our children are making in their reading. So many came to us saying they hated reading. Each now are reading 3 books independently & talk about them constantly. It’s really special.

We’ve achieved a lot this academic year so far but our biggest bets were on behaviour/ culture, attendance & reading.

Thanks to Charlie & rest of the team our attendance YTD is 98.2% & I’m super proud of how confident, articulate & kind our children are.

Then SO proud of @lilystaff.bsky.social’s…

So many excellent headlines from our academic data yesterday but still my favourite figure is our attendance YTD of 98.2%.

Our children genuinely love school and we love teaching them. It’s such a happy place!
So loved hearing our team talk so passionately about the extraordinary academic progress of our children but also so determinedly about what must now happen yesterday.

It’s been the greatest privilege of my career founding a school with this team, children and their families.
