They/them I mainly post about games and I cannot promise any sort of throughline. I jump around as my brain suggests! https://medium.com/@lozangenet

Deltarune is beloved by many, for a variety of reasons. But as much as an immensely popular and talked about game can be undiscussed, I think its RPG systems aren't given enough credit, relatively speaking.

In this article, I've written about some of them!

On top of everything else, Deltarune understands the RPG genre
Deltarune is many things, but it is also in conversation with RPGs and their design. I believe this is worth unpacking.

Zeta has wives, girlfriends, and mothers. You can tell cool, interesting stories about these things! But Zeta just thinks it's good when women are like this, and bad when they're not.

I hear Wing has a woman who's down bad for a guy who wants to kill her(?) and that sounds real good right now

I'm willing to push through a lot and have done so previously - Sayla was my favourite character in the original show despite it feeling like the show was constantly holding her back, but I need *something* to work with. Ideology. Messiness. Anything.

My original plan was to watch gundam in release order, and currently this is still the case, but I'll be real I'm in the second half of Zeta and the female cast is...well, there's not much to work with here.

Ok to be serious the real challenge for this adaptation will be from episode 2 (maybe 3) onward, where the source material kind of ceases to have much structure. But it was a very confident start! So I'm hopeful.

Every time Raqio is being an asshole, I am happy

Gnosia anime adaptation episode 1 review:

They made the protagonist non-binary.

10/10, I trust the adaptation team with my life

Hate that I think I understand this lmao

It's all "but how did the body get here when buses are only available hourly", which is still fun. Edgeworth is a fun PoV to inhabit on a line by line basis. It's not bad or anything, but the story is not the focus. It's weird!

Looking forward to my AAI2 revisit, which I remember having themes.

Even in your typical uchikoshi game (which lives and dies by what twists he's come up with), there's usually an attempt at a narrative. A character arc, a theme.

In AAI it feels like they forgot to include something like that until the very end of the game - it's just not set up at all.

Returning to the original ace attorney investigations for the first time in years, armed with the experience of playing other games in the genre and reading more visual novels and books.

It's fascinating to play a game that is *so* mechanically focused, even on a narrative level.

We unironically need more weirdo art styles, if you want to draw something differently, good. Do that.

If anyone says that Ryukishi is a bad artist in 2025, they are wrong

Like they were always wrong to some extent (he was imitating a specific art style for Higurashi, it's just an unusual one), but in 2025 his art is genuinely super charming and characterful in ways that some others struggle with

I don't know how people don't just post all the juicy details about their personal projects because there is so much I want to talk about but shouldn't lmao

I have two weeks off work not this upcoming week, but the week after

Given that such a length of time does not come often, I am *hoping* to use this time to attempt to take a creative swing (key word: attempt)

This is absolutely one of my favourite YDSP eclipse tracks you've posted, it bangs

🌒 It's YDSP Wednesday 🌘

Let's start October right.

This track is "Azoth in Red", one composed in A minor for Homura. This is maybe the most complex video production I've worked on thus far, despite having the least amount of effects.

I hope you all like it.

I guess general thoughts: I preferred this to hollow knight, easily. And I liked hollow knight! Hornet is very much my sort of action game protagonist, she's able to jump and dash around the battlefield so easily (and you are incentivised to do so).

I finished silksong with the true ending! I'm as shocked as you are!

True final boss bangs. I'd say anything else about it but that would spoil it. If you've played it, you know why it's good!

In act 3 I am increasingly aware that there aren't many upgrades left in the game. I have one more mask to get. I have one more nail upgrade. The weirdo useful items have slowed down. All sidequests seem to involve powerful boss fights.

We'll see how I do!!!

I am on Act 3 of silksong.

I've honestly not had too bad a time, difficulty wise, with the game so far, even infamous locations like Bilewater, because exploring has gotten me a bunch of useful items and upgrades, some of which were clearly designed for those problematic areas.

However...

Thank you! Gnosia *is* great.

That's fair re:Kris and Noelle. I still stand by the conflict being there in her character, but (for example) since writing this I've become aware of the "Merry Krismas!" line in chapter 2. There's a lot of ambiguity there, both positively and negatively.
lozange.bsky.social
Oh that's literally what you said lmao
lozange.bsky.social
I didn't have time to get into it, but there's a real contrast between how Kris is presented, and how Frisk is in undertale
Just for me personally, despite the fact that the word non-binary never comes up, Kris *feels* so much more non-binary to me. Their position as the only human in town too...

What you have to understand about Ryukishi07 is that a major thematic beat he returns to again and again is "we still haven't escaped the shadow of world war 2 and its associated trauma".

It is everywhere!
