I appreciate the people who are willing to even dip their toes into the ecosystem, but Mint... Mint just makes me kinda sad.

Because it promises "it just works" and every time it has failed to deliver for everyone I've helped with it.
If it's not graphics, it's a blacklisted audio driver. If it's not that, it's issues with NICs or Bluetooth or something.

I helped a friend install Linux Mint on his computer.

APPARENTLY he happens to have one of the ONLY models of Intel iGPU that Mint REFUSES to pick up by default.

Thanks Intel Iris Xe Graphics [DG1] or whatever the fuck you're called.

Every time I see Mint, I get more and more frustrated with it.

It's a coping mechanism for self-hatred, I suppose.

Distros like Mint even help you automate shit like starting daemons and programs on start-up, it's really not that hard, if you're not helpless and know how to google shit you'll be fine. we've been on Mint for a while now and everything works fine. if you need help there's forums.

some people think using the command line on linux is akin to programming when really the average user experience is copying commands and pasting them from installation instructions and github pages, and most of the time you don't even need that unless you're building from source

No offense to your friends, but I really have to recommend against Manjaro.

If you REALLY want to jump into the Arch ecosystem as your first Linux distro: Use EndeavourOS. I've never had it brick on me during an update. Manjaro has. All three times I've installed it.

panel 1: shady looking girl in an alleyway wearing a big overcoat, she goes: psst, you wanna see the goods?

panel 2: she opens her coat and inside are all logos of linux distros, she says: if you want the hardcore stuff, I got a supplier for that too

panel 3: she pulls up the Arch logo on phone

🦊lots of people wondering about Linux since Windows 10 ends today, and my personal recommendations are Fedora, Linux Mint, or Kubuntu. Friends of ours like Manjaro, so I'll throw that out there too

we personally use Debian with KDE, but I would not recommend that to people just starting out lol

When I was 14, I saw a problem and came across a neat solution and thought, “can’t be that hard.”

Was ridiculously laborious and so it turned out I was the first and only person to ever publish something like that open source. It is in wide use.

It taught me skills that directly aided my career.
when i was 14 i wrote a raytracer in a day just off intuition and wikipedia alone. it's not like i've gotten dumber. i know this sounds ridiculous, but i think it's literally just a confidence thing. i used to believe i was smart. i need my ego back

Me: I just don't understand why I can't just out-think my anxiety and emotions and simply react and respond in the most ideal way every single time and never feel bad

my therapist: sometimes you simply have to experience an emotion instead of thinking about it
me, nodding sagely: and then it goes away
therapist: well not necessarily
me, shaking my head furiously: no, I don't like that

Heck yeah

I understand completely.

I'm hardly an artist myself, so I have no real place to judge.

I don't mean for this to come off as rude, it's more of an observation:

The shape, position, and angle of the heads in your art all are very... samey?
