While Ashlea and I are working on our major rewrite of our story, I'd like to present our updated #AgentGuide

This is our adult/crossover romantic fantasy with a true slow burn romance, and series potential!

#WritingCommunity 📖🦋
An agent guide for The Siren's Call by Danielle Bradbury and Ashlea P Screaton. A new adult slowburn romantic fantasy. Pitch: Delphine’s always wished for a life as romantic and adventurous as her stories. With any brief escape punished by her employer, she’s desperate to flee, if not for Otto; her best friend, and the only family she’s known. So when he is sent with pirates after a mythical map, she refuses to be left behind.

At sea, a budding romance with the Captain reveals he’s tailed by a dark past, one he’d sabotage the mission to escape. But the pirates claimed Otto’s life if anything goes wrong, and Delphine will do anything—even use the Captain’s past against him—to get the map and save Otto. Comp Titles:

Once Upon A Broken Heart (Stephanie Garber)
- Cocky but hopelessly romantic love interest
- Selfless heroine sacrificing all for love
- Magic and myths
- Betrayal
- True slow burn romance

Dark Water Daughter (H. M. Long)
- Love interest with a scarring secret
- High stakes survival and adventure
- Looming villain
- Pirates
- Sea myths & magical creatures

Howl's Moving Castle
- Impact of societal expectations
- Power of romantic and self-love
- Steampunk elements
- Chosen family
- Taking responsibility Summers spent in a bordello ought to have prepared Delphine better.

Though Hunter and his girls had always ensured Delphine did not see anything vulgar or unsightly, it was difficult to be ignorant when sitting around a dinner table amongst chattering girls. They told tales of their clients, giggling or rolling their eyes at wild requests from sailors. Hunter would shush them and send a pointed look in her direction, only goading them to spin even more dramatic and rather gruesome tales.

Delphine would blush, but she took the joy in their teasing gratefully; summers spent in Hunter's Bordello were only full of fond memories. But they should have prepared her better for the view she had walked in on.

Did you know The River and The Star is out on Oct 7th? The first book is one of my all time faves and i am so lucky to have gotten an arc for the sequel! If you're looking for a pride month read then I'd 100% recommend The Sun and The Void, and then preordering the River and The Star 🤭🤭🌟

simple as: if you don't write your own words, from brain to page, you're not a writer. If you're using AI you don't understand what it means to be a writer. A hill I'll die on.
bookspotlight.bsky.social
So that now makes Lena McDonald, KC Crowne and Rania Faris leaving ChatGPT prompts in their ‘books’.

I’m so fucking tired, guys. If you don’t write, you’re not a writer. It’s that simple. Stop doing this to your readers, who PAY.

Readers and authors deserve better than this. 📚💙
You know what? I’m totally not surprised when an author who has used AI generated slop in their marketing/cover, forgets to delete the chatgbt response in her manuscript.

I am however surprised that Rania is blaming it on her “beta reader”.

What a fucking shame. I discovered a post on Threads of someone claiming K. C. Crowne uses AI and shared this screenshot (the pic is not mine, it was posted by OP)

Just a small snippet from the scene I'm working on.

I'm working to hit the sensory details and timing just right... Horror has to be so intentional with every line, and I'm having a blast with the challenge!

so... 🌟i'm agented!!🌟

@alexbrownwrites.bsky.social found my weird, cosy/creepy genre-blending story & saw the heart in not just this one book, but the rest of my stories as well🥹 i am so excited to work with her, and i can't wait to see what comes next! 💕
A blurry image of an urban landscape at night, with the words "KAY CHOO" written on the top, followed by a round image of the back view of a woman wearing a black jacket looking out into a lake, and the words "is now represented by ALEX BROWN, Mad Woman Literary Agency" below the picture. On the top half of the image, text on a background of an urban nightscape that reads "For The Days We Never Had", followed by text against a translucent reddish background that reads, "After Kai Le and Ai Yu encounter a mysterious entity at a bus-stand, they find themselves getting what they wanted - and more. Thrown into the world of urban legends, they have to grapple with the monsters they have unleashed, both figurative and real. Are their dreams worth losing themselves over?"; "Adult Urban Fantasy - 94k words".

On the second half of the image is a 7-Eleven at dusk, with a row of pictures over it: the book cover for Velvet was the Night; the book cover for The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue; and the anime poster for Durarara!

Hate to be millennial about it all but it is just mental that my whole working life has just been a series of recessions and “economic shocks”, underpinned by stagnant wages

So today was the official release day for my first traditionally published book.

Out in Greenwood is an LGBTQ+ teen novel with humour, mixed with the emotions of realising you are gay at 15 but having to hide those feelings.

Please retweet to help me get the word out.

Happy publication day to James A Lyons!

Tim thought coming out would be easy, yet nothing has changed the horror of facing homophobia

When things seem to be on track, a mysterious graffiti artist starts to target him.

OUT IN GREENWOOD is out NOW!
