Having a Long Neck is an advantage when spearing underwater food, but can be an impediment when dining on snakes. It took this great egret 15 minutes to get this snake down the hatch. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds

A spot-breasted oriole has spotted a delicious bug on a spotted leaf, for the #spotted theme of #BirdOfTheDay. Native to Central America, these orioles were introduced to Miami in 1949 and are common here but not invasive.

The swallow-tailed kite is a raptor known to migrate up to 10,000 miles from South America to breeding grounds in coastal North America, and can be seen in the Everglades in South Florida. #BirdOfTheDay #migration #birds
