When people are occupied, resistance is justified.

There should be an option on all campaigns, submissions shops etc to say 'I'm already on your email list' just for saps like me who hate ticking no.

Also, why yes, I have been writing to a lot of offices via incredibly useful templates in the last wee while.

Do you believe all schools should have a library? 📚

It might surprise you, therefore, that there is no legal requirement for Scotland’s schools to have a school library or librarian.

We are calling on Scottish Government to change this story.

www.scottishbooktrust.com/our-research...
Poster with the map of Scotland. Title says 'The value and impact of Scotland's school libraries: final report' Infographic quote that reads: 'School libraries are not optional extras; they are essential for equitable education. As librarians, educators, parents and policymakers read these pages, I hope they hear the plea: invest in people, space and resources, and the benefits – raised attainment, better mental health and more informed pupils – will be unmistakable.'

Quote is from Derek France,
Preston Lodge High School, East Lothian
Secondary School Librarian of the Year (2022)
Scottish Book Trust Reading
Champion (2025)
Infographic containing two facts. They are:
Fact:
Research proves having a school library and librarian delivers higher test scores equating to academic attainment, successful curriculum or learning outcomes, and positive attitudes towards learning.
Fact:
There is no legal requirement for schools in Scotland to have a school library and librarian. Infographic card that reads: 'What can be done?

Scottish Book Trust recommends:

1. Scottish Government introduces a statutory requirement for secondary schools to operate a high-quality school library service, staffed by a qualified school librarian.

2. Scottish Government and local authorities work with stakeholders to ensure there’s a set standard of provision across the country.

3. Scottish Government and local authorities work together to empower secondary schools across Scotland with funding and resources to operate a high-quality school library service, staffed by a qualified school librarian.

4. Secondary school management teams appropriately train and support their librarians to deliver a high-quality library service. '

The 90s dolphins proudly on display in my local vintage shop were not something I needed this Monday morning.
Small silver brooch with two leaping dolphins with a price tag saying ‘90s dolphin broach £25’

Having to replace my laptop wasn't ideal, but it is kind of a relief to notice far fewer typos and weird autocorrects now that I have a fully functional space bar.

Of course, have done!

Mostly email spam is annoying or stressful and occasionally, it's kind of delightful. Do I seem like someone who is in need of a supply of electric bicycles? How different my life might be if I were.

Nooo, just clippy on crack. Nobody wants it!!

Soon we will be able to sum everything up in one word, ‘meh’.

This makes me feel better, and also worse!

Thanks Adobe, I do realise that my book proofs might be a long document. Very kind to offer a summary, but sadly would kind of defeat the purpose.

Amazing! I feel like I need these now

How am I going to do all the things in the small amount of time I have to do the things? Why didn’t I do some of these things at an earlier date? Why are there things at all?

I hope you get the maximum number of tocks possible!

It totally is. I love Dropbox, it’s my absolute daily legend. I also hadn’t realised that I’d also set my desktop to save to iCloud, which caught most things I hadn’t properly filed. I bet you are better with your external hard drive than I was with mine!

A big phew, despite much gnashing and fretting!

Writers, if you don’t back up everything on a cloud, please do. My laptop glitched out completely yesterday and now I have a new one, I can see I barely lost a thing (even though the last time I manually backed up was a shamefully long time ago).

Thank you! It was a bit of a panicked Monday, but I’m very lucky that I’d suspected it might be on the outs (it was fine but apparently “vintage” at 8 years old) for a while and was able to save up a backup fund for such an event!

Ah the hubris. Am now the proud owner of an emergency new laptop.

Laptop got stuck in a restart loop for an hour, I cursed myself a million times for relying on auto save, managed to get back online and recover the document I was working on yesterday. Have I learned a single lesson. Naaaaah.
