Honestly, I don't know why I haven't added that to any of my games, tbh.
What's a mechanic from an older #ttrpg (pre-2000s) that you wish modern games would bring back?
THAC0 need not apply. 😄

It's solidly medium crunch.
There are much better games to use as an intro and I think, if D&D weren't the gateway to the hobby, we'd have more people.
It really hit me how counterintuitive and confusing it is compared to nearly everything else I've ever played. The kids had no clue what was going on

Roll a d12* on each table.
If any die is a 1 or a 2, the encounter is a surprise.
If any die is a 12, the party spots the encounter from afar.
Doubles determine how many NPCs/enemies are encountered.

There's nothing that makes a setting sing like a cast of villains to set it on fire ~ But what's beneath the evil grin and immaculate costumes? Today I'm exploring (and providing some roll tables/archetypes) for making dynamic and dastardly disruptors:

Below is a thread on what most people get wrong about encounter activities and what there is to be done about it. (1/14)
>ask a GM at the LGS if their table is OSR or Trad
>he doesn't understand |pull out diagram explaining what is OSR and what is Trad
>he laughs and says "it's a good table, sir"
>join the table
>it's Trad

They see firm mechanics as a safety rail for incompetence, and want to throw all GMs in the deep end to force them to swim.

Through all the highs and lows, we made it. We're still here. That's a pretty big achievement, and one I'm quite proud of.
May 2026 be the year where we all achieve our goals, big and small.
We're gonna crush it, y'all.

Looking down on incentives is a great way of making it clear that you don't *get* the games you've been playing (and presumably reading) at all.
