Tips to confirm registration:

- Ask your agent & publisher for the copyright cert

- Use Advanced Search

- Test shorter title versions, drop subtitle

- Try different author name spellings (full legal, accents, hyphens)

- Search your ISBN

- Check under your publisher’s name

I am lightly horrified by how many people have now looked up their books and found out their publishers (who often were required contractually!!!!) just... didn't register the copyrights on books. Not all of them! Just sporadically!

This is not just one publisher, I've seen all the big ones now.

Today is the day authors are learning how many of their publishers straight up blew off registering copyright and I feel like that deserves a class action suit of its own if it costs everyone their settlement money from the Anthropic suit... 😒🤬

It means I can publish books in the series again. I was actually under a terrible contract and wasn't permitted to publish anything in the series for the past 5 years. The book rights are now back in my control!

I can do all the things we couldn't 5 years ago, including an art book with lore. (2/3)
