My day 8 title for #LibFaves25 if THE MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF JUNETTA PLUM by Valerie Wilson Wesley - this mystery set in 1920s Harlem was smart, atmospheric, and what I hope will be the first in a long series.

Day 7 for #LibFaves25 is TOO OLD FOR THIS by Samantha Downing.

Day 6 of #LibFaves25 is THE INHERITANCE by Ilona Andrews. I was delighted both by the surprise arrival of a new Andrews title and the adrenaline-charged, but still emotionally resonant story. Loved.

Day 4 title for #LibFaves25 is WRECK YOUR HEART by Lori Rader-Day. A big-hearted, funny, found-family mystery that delighted me from start to finish.

My day 3 title for #LibFaves25 is A MURDER FOR MISS HORTENSE by Mel Pennant. Loved this first in what I hope will be a series.

My own day 2 title for #LibFaves25 is BEST OFFER WINS by Marisa Kashino. A woman spirals and will use any means necessary to win the bidding war for the house of her dreams. Sharp, funny and dark.

Day 1 of #LibFaves25 for me will be NOBODY KNOWS YOU'RE HERE by Bryn Greenwood. This haunting thriller is one of the best I've read in a while and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Do you love dogs? Do you love mysteries? Then I have the book for you, AWAY TO ME by Patricia McConnell featuring an animal behaviorist (and budding sheepdog competitor) whose mentor is killed. This is a slow build, but atmospheric and rewarding. #ewgc

One of my non-crime books, A TANGLED MAGIC by Andrea Eames is a retelling of Rapunzel's story with court politics and bone magic. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Ben Crump's legal thriller WORSE THAN A LIE is fast-paced and gripping and delves into crooked cops and American "justice". #ewgc

Also loved Mary Kubica's IT'S NOT HER - claustrophobic and tense thriller opens with the murder of several members of a family at a northwoods resort, a missing daughter, and a killer on the loose. #ewgc

This one is just out, but have to put a word in for BEST OFFER WINS by Marisa Kashino about a woman who goes into a deep spiral of ever-increasingly wild choices while trying to buy a house in a very competitive market. Darkly twisty and sharp. #ewgc

Really loved THE MIDNIGHT TAXI by Yosha Gunasekera introducing Sri Lankan American taxi driver Sirwathi Perera who comes under suspicion when a man is murdered in her cab. #ewgc

Suzanne Enoch is solidly on form with her historical romance, BETTER THAN A DUKE. Widow and widower are reluctantly brought together by their kids - despite their families scheming otherwise. Loved. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:35 PM
James Wolff's SPIES AND OTHER GODS is both a spy story and a sardonic look at the games they play. #ewgc

A widow loses her job as a butcher and finds the only option open to her is to become an assassin in Kang Jiyoung's MRS. SHIM IS A KILLER - a darkly funny, smart new translated novel from Korea.
