Librarian, reader of many things
For the other days of #LibFaves25 my books were in no particular order of preference, but my day 10 book is my number one book of the year. Loved the court politics, the twists, the magic and world-building. All so excellent. My best booK: THE RAVEN SCHOLAR by Antonia Hodgson.

My day 8 title for #LibFaves25 if THE MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF JUNETTA PLUM by Valerie Wilson Wesley - this mystery set in 1920s Harlem was smart, atmospheric, and what I hope will be the first in a long series.

Day 7 for #LibFaves25 is TOO OLD FOR THIS by Samantha Downing.

Day 6 of #LibFaves25 is THE INHERITANCE by Ilona Andrews. I was delighted both by the surprise arrival of a new Andrews title and the adrenaline-charged, but still emotionally resonant story. Loved.

Day 4 title for #LibFaves25 is WRECK YOUR HEART by Lori Rader-Day. A big-hearted, funny, found-family mystery that delighted me from start to finish.

My day 3 title for #LibFaves25 is A MURDER FOR MISS HORTENSE by Mel Pennant. Loved this first in what I hope will be a series.
December 10, 2025 at 3:11 PM
My own day 2 title for #LibFaves25 is BEST OFFER WINS by Marisa Kashino. A woman spirals and will use any means necessary to win the bidding war for the house of her dreams. Sharp, funny and dark.

Day 1 of #LibFaves25 for me will be NOBODY KNOWS YOU'RE HERE by Bryn Greenwood. This haunting thriller is one of the best I've read in a while and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Whew! I had a lot of them saved up apparently. Next up will be one of these. #ewgc

Perveen Mistry returns in A STAR FROM CALCUTTA. This time she's called on to help a budding Indian film studio when murder occurs. #ewgc

Jane Harper delivers another emotionally drawn, deeply wounded mystery with LAST ONE OUT. Not a happy novel, but beautifully drawn. #ewgc

Do you love dogs? Do you love mysteries? Then I have the book for you, AWAY TO ME by Patricia McConnell featuring an animal behaviorist (and budding sheepdog competitor) whose mentor is killed. This is a slow build, but atmospheric and rewarding. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:49 PM
One of my non-crime books, A TANGLED MAGIC by Andrea Eames is a retelling of Rapunzel's story with court politics and bone magic. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Ben Crump's legal thriller WORSE THAN A LIE is fast-paced and gripping and delves into crooked cops and American "justice". #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Also loved Mary Kubica's IT'S NOT HER - claustrophobic and tense thriller opens with the murder of several members of a family at a northwoods resort, a missing daughter, and a killer on the loose. #ewgc

This one is just out, but have to put a word in for BEST OFFER WINS by Marisa Kashino about a woman who goes into a deep spiral of ever-increasingly wild choices while trying to buy a house in a very competitive market. Darkly twisty and sharp. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Really loved THE MIDNIGHT TAXI by Yosha Gunasekera introducing Sri Lankan American taxi driver Sirwathi Perera who comes under suspicion when a man is murdered in her cab. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:36 PM
Suzanne Enoch is solidly on form with her historical romance, BETTER THAN A DUKE. Widow and widower are reluctantly brought together by their kids - despite their families scheming otherwise. Loved. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:35 PM
James Wolff's SPIES AND OTHER GODS is both a spy story and a sardonic look at the games they play. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:32 PM
A widow loses her job as a butcher and finds the only option open to her is to become an assassin in Kang Jiyoung's MRS. SHIM IS A KILLER - a darkly funny, smart new translated novel from Korea.

Dez Limerick is back in STORM WARNING by James Byrne. Here the gatekeeper has to get a team into an underground mine/research facility in Newfoundland that has gone quiet - and then get them all back out again. So love this series of action thrillers and Dez! #ewgc

Had to miss last month's chat, but did see someones post about THE BEHEADING GAME by Rebecca Lehmann and dove right in. Imagine if Anne Boleyn rose from the dead (not in a zombie way) after being executed and went on a journey of discovery and revenge. There you have this imaginative book. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Sarah K. L. Wilson's THE TRIDENT AND THE PEARL is a beautifully imagined fantasy with great characters and great worldbuilding. The worst thing about the read is that it will be a long wait for the next in the series. #ewgc
December 4, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Dana Stabenow is starting a new series with THE HARVEY GIRL - the titular figure is actually a Pinkerton agent working undercover in one of the Harvey restaurants in 1890 AZ. Great start to the series with a strong sense of place and a likable protagonist. #ewgc

Many mystery/thrillers for me this time. Next up: THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU by Lai Sanders - psychological thriller that explores cancel culture and female rage. Engrossing and sharp. #ewgc
