Literally none of the standards and practices I learned studying for my journalism minor apply today. I might as well have been taking a mass-comm history minor.
I'm really sour about it. We learned why those standards and practices were good a long time ago; then kind of just forgot.

ok so i almost posted a massive bsky thread for this and i realized that it was WAY too long for that so instead i blacked out and wrote a short story about having an accident as a kid who's potty training. it's my first time ever writing but it was a lot of fun ^^

It fell apart so quickly, like, about eight years ago the young 20-something junior dev would be generally competent but do things like try to upload a Twitch Keygrasm (name and all) emote to the company slack, giving everyone a sensible chuckle about the changing times when IT gets involved.

I can tell how fucked things are by the fact that no US-based applicant has ever made it to the technical interview with me. It's not that we're only hiring from India, it's that they keep being the only applicants getting through HR and the "are you bsing" tech screen.

Hey. We don’t talk enough about how traumatizing & damaging our childhood bullying is. It’s abuse, plain and simple; not something that should be an accepted rite of passage. It’s fucked up and PERMANENTLY alters the life paths of neurodiverse people.
