we publish tech books and sometimes other books too.
as some of you may know, today is #givingtuesday.

we're proud to support island harvest, a member of @feedingamerica.org, this year: hubs.la/Q03Wyw_T0

we're donating $1 for every book or subscription purchased through the end of the year.

love this take.
I’m learning #Zig with Systems Programming with Zig (by @garrison.tngl.sh) at @manning.com
It’s not just a book about a language, it’s a book about thinking “like a system”.
The compiler teaches you and the build system gives you control.
I love this kind of mind-blowing moment.

how do you define AI slop?

imo, it's something that was purely crafted by AI.

so, if you asked it to make a draft shorter, it's not slop.

but if you went to AI & said, "write me a post," then yes, slop.

but even that is nuanced, because if you edit it, it's not slop. right...?

idk. thoughts?

we often get asked why we're publishing a new edition. or what's new. or if there's "a point" to getting the new edition. or some variation thereof.

elton does a good job here summarizing 1. why the book matters and 2. what the second edition has that the first doesn't.

highly recommend.
Now @docker.com is ubiquitous but most people learn it on the job: lots of knowledge gaps.

New post on the 2nd edition of my book - Learn Docker in a Month of Lunches - now fully cross-platform (Linux/Windows/Intel/ARM) with modern cloud coverage.

beyond research, deepseek models are a fairly new concept (probably won't be for long if they follow the typical LLM timeline 😂).

but the authors of build a deepseek model (from scratch) didn't waste any time. hear their story: hubs.la/Q03TlX4f0

anyone else notice how AI agents went from, "ooo... these are cool," to, "yeah, so?" in like six months?

kinda made @cxbxmxcx.bsky.social's first edition of AI agents in action old news pretty quick.

so, he's writing another & it's out in MEAP.

despite dax promising (and sometimes delivering) better models, it still falls short more often than we'd like.

that's what makes our new MEAP, dax reimagined, cool — it shows you how to use dax as an interactive logic engine.
