It is with great pleasure that I inaugurate my Bluesky account sharing our last @biorxiv-plants.bsky.social at @theustunlab.bsky.social, about pathogen-mediated modulation of host P-bodies and translation. 🆕 🎉

So glad it's finally out!
Great work at the @theustunlab.bsky.social together with @margotraffeiner.bsky.social.
I hope you enjoy reading it! 🪴🔬

Ancestral P-body proteins rewired for autophagic recycling in the early land plant Marchantia polymorpha
Processing bodies (P-bodies) are conserved ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granules central to RNA metabolism across eukaryotes. Although the mechanisms underlying their assembly are well understood, the path...

It is depressing to be at an international conference and have everyone be like “what is going on over there”. 🫠 Not exactly making America great.

#2025ISMPMI Manuel Gonzalez Fuente from the Üstün lab shows how pathogens like Pseudomonas target p bodies with effectors HopM1 and HopN1. ER stress induction by HopM1 counteracts p bodies.

@manuelgonzalezfuen.bsky.social explains that eukaryote P bodies contain translationally inactive RNAs.

Do pathogens induce the formation of these? Yes!

How? Effectors!… that repress ER stress response.

Why? Make plants susceptible by reducing translation of immunity genes.
