I’m a frustrated Democrat Hawaii/Big Island/Puna 🏳️‍🌈ally🏳️‍🌈 🚫DMs
The aggressive “American Only” disclaimer on the front of this menu certainly saves time if you’re thinking about eating here. Sacramento in the 1930s was aggressively segregated and xenophobic. I don’t think good prices can overcome this

Okay, one more pie and it pisses me off. Not the pie. It looks yummy. It’s that jerk John not being appreciative that Carol makes ANY dessert for his whiney ass. Carol. Girl. Grow a spine. Your feelings matter.

Well this joint has strict rules in place!

For a Chinese-owned business their Chinese Dinners seem to be geared toward their Caucasian customers. Bowl of Rice with Milk? Mmmkay.

If I were you I’d order fast before they raise prices again

This will probably be the last pie for a while because I don’t think I can top this.
It’s a SPAM pie, but the recipe leaves out very important information about the SPAM:
Dice 1/2 of the SPAM
Purée 1/2 of the SPAM
PURÉE. HALF. OF. THE. SPAM.
This is grossing even me out

I try to avoid menus that have specials cards covering up the regular menu, but the back page here is special.

The food looks good too

Yesterday’s pie was a little gruesome so I thought I’d offer y’all something less offensive…
Lemon Jell-O and tomato sauce filling topped with tuna salad is less offensive, right?

There is a LOT going on with this menu. The food looks good and yay air conditioning but it seems pricey for smack in the middle of the Depression.
I’ll buy you an appetizer if you can find what’s hilariously wrong with something in the back cover art

Why do so many new drug names look like a cat walked across a keyboard and someone in marketing says “That’s exactly the vibe we’re going for”?

With the holidays right around the corner here’s a nice inspirational pie to set the mood.
Well, technically it’s a pie. With a beef crust that is in no way overcooked. And the filling only LOOKS maggoty. I’m sure it’s fine.
Anyhoo, happy holidays!#VintageFood

Well this joint looks really nice. That Royal Dinner should come with a bromo chaser because it’s HUGE!

It’s fun to eat at the YMCA…I had no idea that they had their own restaurants! I’m including two different menus from the same Y in Chicago, and rest assured that the food is prepared by women cooks. Whew! Thank goodness!

Pick. A. Side.
The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

If you're a person of influence in this country and you haven't picked a side, maybe now would be the time to pick a fucking side.

Mrs Runyon met Damon in Mexico when she was 14 and he was 41. He sent her to convent school and they officially hooked up when she was 19 and they got married 3 years after that. Call me skeptical but I don’t think she was great in the kitchen

Today we’re going to Hollywood Park to see how the other half lives. These prices seem expensive for 1948 but we’re not exactly their target demographic so we can fake it for a few hours. We’re off!

The 50s were weird, man. What drunken food scientist thought “Bean pizza with a biscuit crust is what Americans want?!” How on earth do you even slice it? Also, I no longer trust the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval because obviously they can be bought off

Cue the theme music to Somewhere in Time because we’re going to a quirky spot on Mackinac Island. The back of the menu seems to offer lodging for $1 a head. In It Happened One Night that motor court cost $2 so this tracks
