My feeble effort to awaken friends on X:

"Nominal 'Republicans' are paving the road to serfdom

while actual conservatives busily gawk at anti-woke sideshows"

Darn it, my own next piece on why the most important things lawyers should be doing now is to be better humans is still weeks from completion

I'm sure there are defensible reasons behind these studies, but after four decades of seeing our legal assistance system serve less than a fifth of those who need help I'm starting to get a little impatient

Every time I see another RFP for a "statewide civil legal needs assessment" I wonder if the money might better be spent actually addressing needs that have already endlessly been assessed

All of the below.
(Aptronym + etymological confusion)

I wonder if one day the etymology of "trumped-up charges" will get confused because of the current administration's use of the DOJ et al. or if the originally etymology will stick (i.e., from words that mean "to deceive") & folks will feel his name was just a really on-the-nose aptronym.

From Hisham Matar's chilling The Return:
"History remembers Mussolini as the buffoonish Fascist, the ineffective silly man of Italy who led a lame military campaign in the Second World War, but in Libya he oversaw a campaign of genocide."

Just Trump peddling another dangerous lie — this time about Tylenol and autism — that sows chaos, scares parents, and puts our health at risk.

Trump: "Taking Tylenol is, uh, not good. I'll say it. It's not good."

@tribelaw.bsky.social - I know there are Supremacy Clause issues, but when federal agent misbehavior is so contrary to public safety might the state's police power prevail over them?

How about a state law prohibiting masked and unidentified people from engaging in such "enforcement"? Anyone tried that yet?

The Trump administration’s cruel immigration enforcement tactics are recklessly endangering all Illinoisians, including hardworking immigrants and US citizens.

This isn't the nation I know or grew up in — know your rights, stand up, and speak out.

There's a lot going on but I have to tell you that I have never seen Kate look this happy and relaxed at an official function. She usually is pulling manic faces or looking sullen. So she's either drugged to the gills or....

When all the nominal 'leaders' of important federal agencies are in fact abject followers of a demented would-be autocrat, honest criticism is essential

Just caught a great talk by David Mindell about this new book, which brought back memories of visiting the Matthew Boulton house in Birmingham and reading about the Lunar Society some years back.

Is genAI the steam engine of the legal "industry"?
