Some amazing insights from #DVCS #conference of #Sinology #Hamburg:
-Qing soldiers needed tokens to use the toilet. (Schneider/Pessl)
-In German schoolbooks, Confucianism is shown as a never-changing continuum. (Schmid)
-Kang Youwei himself described Qianlong's battle copperplates. (Moll-Murata)

Impressions from my talk at #DVCS in #Hamburg: though it was the last panel, the room was still full with ~30 listeners. I have gone back to not using a script. However, the slides are usually quite full. I'll post a little summary of my talk below. #sinology #conference #china

A mural of Fürstenried castle near #Munich (at the nearby underground station), where our graduate programme on global #philology will host its academic retreat next year. I am currently in charge of planning it, hoping to make this a memorable event for our recently joined PhDs!

A rather interesting dinner location yesterday at #DVCS #Hamburg: a replica of the Yuyuan 豫園 teahouse in #Shanghai. There is a lot of talk on #Chinese replicas of European cities, but this is an example of a contemporary imitation of traditional #ChineseArchitecture! #sinology

As the lack of English secondary literature specifically dedicated to Gongyang Confucianism #公羊學 makes this School of Chinese Philosophy and #Confucianism rather inaccessible, I have decided that it is time for a bibliography post including introductory and more specific works on Gongyang thinkers.

Dunno if I mentioned it here, but National Library of Mongolia has a treasure trove of Manchu-language documents, w/out which "Manchu studies" is rather incomplete IMO 🤔
