🎶 I say "high." You say "low." You say "why?" And I say "I don't know." 🎶

The churchyard, which occupies a rising promentary on Castle Hill, is equally characterful with many interesting monuments and stunning views of the Mere. If you've never been, a visit is highly recommended ✅

Some of the monuments in the church date back to the 14th Century. The alabaster tomb of Margaret and Francis Kynaston (who died in 1591, and was Cupbearer to Elizabeth I) is slightly older. It was badly desecrated by the Puritans, who strike me as very unpleasant people!

The 16th Century tomb of Francis and Margaret Kynaston in St Mary's Ellesmere. It was badly vandalised by the Puritans, and formerly featured statues of three of the Kynaston's daughters (on the left of the picture).

You'd probably need a couple of hours to truly soak-up the interior, which has some wonder to gaze upon at every turn. Including carving of every description, intricate tilery, and breathtaking stained glass...

A sample of the beautiful stained glass at St Mary's Ellesmere, which can be found in every window. An example of some of the immaculate carving inside St Mary's Ellesmere... in the form of a chair!

There are no words to adequately do justice to the marvel that greeted me on the latest leg of the north county church tour today. St Mary's #Ellesmere is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING:

Looking across the churchyard to the cruciform wonderment of the Grade-1 listed St Mary's Ellesmere - which must be among Shropshire's finest. It contains Norman features but was restored in the mid-1800s in a Perpendicular Gothic style.

Word of the day: CIGFRAN ‘raven’, geiriadur.ac.uk/gpc/gpc.html... a bird of prey, considered clever and wise. It often offered advice to poets in prophetic poems, and was one of the three birds (with the heron and eagle) most valued in the ancient laws of Wales.

A massively underrated Flying Nun band!

Ordered many a CD from them (to here in the UK) back in the day: friendly staff and great service! 👍

It's one of those things that isn't quite true but you understand what he means - I guess that's his genius!

I use this quote often! He also had a good one about my hometown (Shrewsbury) oof which he said: the only thing that moves after 6pm is the river! 🤣

I'd started to forget how much I dislike the Conservative Party but this week's conference has provided a timely reminder 🤮

A beautiful autumn afternoon on Shawbury Heath:

Dappled sunlight on the main ride through Shawbury Heath Looking across to Matthew's Coppice. A green lane on the edge of Shawbury Heath, with Matthew's Coppice to the right, Grinshill off in the distance and a repurposed hangar from nearby RAF Shawbury in the middle ground. An area of recent clearfell in Matthew's Coppice.

This slightly disheveled yellow Glasdon Nestor™ 400 resides beneath some ivy on the roadside from Merrington to Old Woods. An as yet unidentified fading yellow grit bin near the junction of the road to Webscott, not far from the centre of Merrington.

🎶 I've looked at grit bins from both sides now, from up and down and still somehow... 🎶

A striking, bright yellow Glasdon Nestor™ 400 standing sentry in Merrington on the road to Webscott - it can hold over half a tonne of grit, you know! 😯 Looking towards Webscott with the Glasdon Nestor™ 400 in the foreground but partially obscured by a sapling.

Does he play in an Oasis tribute band at the Steam Wagon every fourth Thursday in months ending with an 'l'?

I'm guessing he's just won a contract to fix the broken bulbs in the floodlights - I mean, it couldn't be anything else, could it? You'll be telling me next Mickey Moore has just secured a plum coaching job with billionaire-owned Birmingham City! 👀

I've noticed a lot more of these since you explained what they were - the churchyard at St Peter's Myddle has loads of them!
