This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

If by “private” he means I get to make decisions with my doctor privately without the influence of politicians or religion, at a cadence based on need rather than insurance premiums/profits… then, yeah. I like “private” insurance. If he means a private company that earned $23B last year, then no…

Three Yale professors who have written extensively on authoritarianism are leaving the U.S. “We’re like people on the Titanic saying our ship can’t sink,” Marci Shore said. “And what you know as a historian is that there is no such thing as a ship that can’t sink.”

The decision by these three Yale professors to move to Canada is both a warning and a call to action.

Why are all of these people not arrested for this huge security breach? People are in jail for security breaches as small as, like accidentally taking their own secure laptop to a hotel at a work conference…

May Day is not officially acknowledged in the U.S. because of what historians say is an ongoing resistance to unity among the working class. This resistance is prompting protesters to take action on Thursday, regardless.

She needs to continue speaking. We are desperate for leadership - if she wants to be that leader the next time we vote for president, now is when to step up. Gone are the days of quietly letting the winning party show what they can do. We need leadership.

And somehow, people still fly that flag…
When liberalism was firmly entrenched, its discontents could treat authoritarian ideas as interesting avant-garde provocations. Authoritarianism in power, however, was always going to be crude and stupid.

That’s kinda exactly my point… the Democratic Party as a political party needs to take note that the platform of the Democratic Socialists is far more popular than the centrist milquetoast nonsense that enabled the Tea Party and thus MAGA.
In 2016, Donna Brazile revealed Clinton’s campaign had a deal with the DNC for control in exchange for funding, tipping the scales against Sanders. A lawsuit alleging bias was dismissed, but many saw the primary as unfairly stacked for Clinton. That certainly speaks to the vote difference.
Only if the DNC pays attention. Bernie drew these kinds of crowds, and they forced us to put Clinton on the ticket. That’s how this whole Trump debacle started. The people have wanted Bernie and AOC‘s vision for more than a decade.
More likely, he used an intern… who used ChatGPT. And neither of them bothered to review it.
