SEPTA is already working with billions less in funding than other transit agencies with
lower ridership, and pays more in taxes to the state than it ever gets. Yet the republicans say “Human nature suggests, why should I do anything to help? I don’t ever get any help for my region."🫣🫠

As it turns out, we live in a society of interconnected pieces — and sometimes those pieces are arranged by people committed to making the world a little worse for everyone.

Deep cuts to Philadelphia's transit system will have devastating impacts in the City of Brotherly Love — and other cities may be next.

As our kids go #BackToSchool, never forget that we ARE the traffic that we’re afraid of. If more kids walked, biked or rode transit to school, it would erase a massive number of car trips each day, and our kids would be safer, healthier and better at school. HT Ian Lockwood.

Spread the word.
Cartoon illustrating, how traffic induces more traffic. “There is too much traffic for Billy to walk to school, so we drive him.”

I rode SEPTA to school every day starting in grade 4. The city's free transit pass program was instrumental, and I learned so much from that experience with my peers. More than 25% of students across the district rely on SEPTA every day. Now families are left scrambling to find another way.

Today Philly said goodbye to more than 30 bus routes, and is preparing for more cuts and service reductions, a 9pm curfew for subway, 5 regional rail lines cut..all thanks to our state republicans refusal to fund transit for the 6th largest city in the country. whyy.org/articles/sep...
SEPTA cuts: Riders feel a 'sense of loss' during the first day of reduced service
As SEPTA cuts begin, Philadelphians are adjusting to slower commute times. “It is grief, in a sense,” one rider said.

Vancouver’s Integrity Commissioner has found Mayor Ken Sim and ABC councillors broke the code of conduct on multiple occasions for coordinating amendments to controversial motions in separate private online conversations ahead of public council meetings

that was my understanding too, but the article does quote a parent who was stopped by a lifeguard from instructing her child..

This weekend, we met with @emilylowan.bsky.social, a candidate in the BC Greens leadership race. Provincial policy plays a pivotal role in street safety, and it was great to discuss some of the approaches we could take to improve safety for all road users!

Wow this was actually posted by the Sierra Club? 😣

July 2024 was the deadliest month on BC roads in over a decade. Unfortunately this July seems no better. Some headlines from this weekend alone.

Our hearts break for the victims and their loved ones.
Four headlines read: Fatal crash off hairpin turn on Mount Seymour Road in North Van; 1 dead after crash in New West; Pedestrian dies after being hit by SUV in South Vancouver; 1 cyclist dead, 2 injured after collision at Okanogan GranFondo event

Dear journalists, I am once again asking you to insert one single ounce of active agency or causality in the headlines you write for fatal car crashes

Big milestone for VZV! If you appreciate the advocacy work we've done, or even just seeing our stickers around town - consider donating to help us keep up the momentum! We don't have any other funders, we are just regular people who care about having a transportation system that won't kill us.

Big news! We recently registered as a non-profit and can now accept donations. They'll help fund things like: stickers around town, attending events, and paying our awesome summer intern. If you like the work we do and want to see us do more, please consider donating ❤️

Great motion from @petermeiszner.bsky.social and @lisadominato.bsky.social to increase the # of schools in the School Travel Program. This program supports kids in walking, biking, or rolling to school, and teaches them about road safety and active travel.

For mother's day I humbly request that we stop normalizing supersized vehicles that we know are tremendously more likely to kill children (like my own child, pictured here). Please and thank you!

Pedestrians who are hit by SUVs are 44% more likely to be killed than if they were hit by a conventional car, new study finds. Children are 82% more likely to die when hit by an SUV than by a car. In children under 10, the risk of death was 130% higher.

Regulate vehicle size now.

This morning, Ken Sim made a direct call for the expansion of involuntary mental healthcare in response to the horrific incident at the Lapu Lapu Day festival. As a road safety group, we'd also like to point out the importance of considering preventative measures from a road safety perspective. 🧵
