On my podcast, I raised a couple friends’ eyebrows for saying TikTok videos are a natural evolution of 130 years of cinema, and making it a peoples’ medium. I understand wanting to wrestle this stuff away from big industry. But I don’t get not seeing this as another level of artist exploitation.

There’s a degree to which I sympathize with Miller’s perspective about the democratization of filmmaking, but he’s also made a career on films about the triumph of the human spirit (or pig and penguin) against looming technocracy. AI art is neither organic nor ours to use.

There’s a disconnect with a lot of people when a celebrity is not a tightly controlled industrial product. This variation in humanity is something that people take to gossip forums to rail against, but is what makes some stars interesting.

Dramas kind of have a tougher road than other genres, because they have to be reviewed as great films for anyone to care. We’ll check out ZOOLANDER 2, but if THE SMASHING MACHINE isn’t Oscar-worthy what is it for?

It was crazy when there was a FREE WILLY 2. That whale had been through enough already. It’s like all those TAKEN movies. At a certain point you just gotta admit that Liam Neeson’s family sucks at not getting kidnapped.

It’s a crazy film because it’s by the director of THE FUGITIVE and is like someone trying to do FRIDAY THE 13TH who doesn’t get its appeal so he can’t replicate it. You never know how the people going camping together know each other as they don’t seem to really be friends, and the ending is wild.

I’m watching THE FINAL TERROR and am thinking “This is kind of like PREDATOR, but only a truly free spirit would agree.” So I google the terms “the final terror” and “predator” to see if anyone’s had this insight and can only find people complaining that other people say they’re similar films.

There aren’t too many Director’s Cuts or Extended Cuts I prefer to the Theatrical Versions (including ones most people seem to agree on like DARK CITY and THE OUTSIDERS). I think it’s because I view cinema as music, and I think they often just mess with the rhythms and tones.

Yeah. It’s a disturbing creep toward far right acceptability. These people should be made to feel that their views aren’t acceptable as we’re a smaller step from straight N*zism being a mainstream political viewpoint than some want to believe.
