As someone who hosts screenings, my interpretation of this is younger people yearn for communal cultural experiences because they’ve been denied them the longest. The out of touch adult defends all big tech as being down with the kids but kids are critical of this stuff because it’s forced on them.

The thing with zombies as villains is you can’t HATE a zombie. They have no freewill. It’s like hating volcanos. Many zombie movies have a “humans are the real villains” theme because, although cliche, it’s probably correct.

Most Canadian provinces don’t enforce movie ratings, which must be a result of the internet rendering them obsolete. You used to have to spend weeks growing a goatee to get into NATURAL BORN KILLERS at fifteen. SHOWGIRLS? Forget it.

I don’t understand on what grounds Paramount Skydance can sue Warner Bros. Discovery for siding with a Netflix deal over their bigger offer. It’s like saying “How can you legally date him when I asked you out more??”

I gotta say I like how Disney Plus shows movies like TRON: ARES in IMAX enhanced versions, and I wouldn’t even complain if they added an electric guitar sound every time the screen changes size.

MARTY SUPREME is more of an entertainment industry satire than it is a character study about a “narcissist.” He does what is required of him to succeed. It’s a film about debasement.

There’s a type of reviewer who will regularly criticize movies for going over the heads of audiences slightly stupider than they are. That’s not populist, it’s just patronizing.
