It’s true that people dressed up to fly a few generations ago; one reason is that air travel back then was incredibly expensive. If your (domestic, multiple layovers, ultra bumpy, smoking) flight was possibly the only one you were going to take this decade, then yes, you probably dressed fancy.
Honestly, this makes me want to dress more like a slob when I travel just to spite that moron
Sean Duffy, the U.S. transportation secretary, has been urging people for the past week to dress and comport themselves better as a way of restoring “civility” to air travel. On Tuesday, he added another item to his list of concerns: the quality of the snacks handed out on commercial flights.

True, but the issue here is that Mamdani's words have to be taken in bad faith because he's brown.
As a Jew it doesn’t seem that hard to understand that if people are protesting outside a synagogue because they think it’s pro-Israel, that’s antisemitic but if they’re protesting outside a synagogue because it’s hosting an event encouraging people to move to illegal settlements, that’s fair game.

The kind of journalism we need.
* You know how Van Halen had a contract rider demanding bowls of M&Ms with the brown ones removed?

They later claimed that was all a test to make sure venues were reading their contracts. Clever!

BUT WAIT, that claim itself is actually false. I fact-checked it.

Space Mutiny might be the all-time champ for me, but the thing about even a 'just okay' episode of MST3K is that they threw out so many jokes—inevitably, they'd hit you with one that made you laugh at everything you heard for the next 15 minutes.
MST3K is one of the great artistic achievements of the twentieth century.

And of course episode 505 is its peak achievement.
Today in 1988 Mystery Science Theater 3000 premiered on KTMA in St. Paul Minnesota. #MST3K

Re: that XKCD: that one hit me like a truck because my little brother died of cancer 15 years ago last month. He didn't get to meet my wife, our children, or hear about the *innnnteresting* personal discoveries I've had this last year. It's just a very long time.

They acted like the shooting of Charlie K*rk was another 9/11, except the public didn’t know who he was and Trump didn’t have 90% approval ratings. They shot their wad and it showed how bad their political instincts are (and as his popularity craters, they’re getting worse).
it's very fitting that in retrospect, Trump's failure to oust Jimmy Kimmel was the point that his administration turned. It's been all losses ever since

I’m glad AP is suing the administration and talking about it. But this op-ed goes out of its way to omit the president’s name, and doesn’t spell out the reason for the lawsuit (AP was kicked out of the WH press pool over the Gulf of Mexico thing) or who is being sued.

The executive editor of The Associated Press says the news organization is fighting for the right of the press and public to speak freely without being targeted by the government.

Hochul almost lost her re-election campaign to Lee Zeldin, and apparently it woke her the fuck up and convinced her to get a personality and do stuff.
I really did not have “Kathy Hochul understands this political moment better than almost anyone else in the Democratic Party” on my bingo card but here we are
Governor Hochul on Elise Stefanik doubling down on her claims that Mamdani is a “jihadist.”

Free idea for any Democratic candidate: "This is theft, and we will get the public's money back by seizing every Trump property."
New from me: Trump and his allies have decided that they are the real victims of the criminal justice system.

And while restrictive immunity laws make it difficult for actual victims to get compensation, Trump plans to just skip the courts and start issuing taxpayer-funded "reparation" checks.
MAGA's $300 million heist
Donald Trump supports immunity for cops and prosecutors. Unless they try to hold him and his allies accountable. Then we all have to pay Donald Trump.

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

Katelyn makes some good points about Rep. McBride's recent work in this piece. At the risk of refusing to take a stand, I think we can evaluate a lot of politicians without sorting them into GOOD and BAD. I can't stand a bunch of things McBride did early in her term; she's done better lately.
This is completely fair. The default should be healthy skepticism of any and all politicians.
To be clear, Katelyn acknowledges what I said in her piece---we share these criticisms of McBride.

I just absolutely cannot come to the same conclusion. McBride is a fair-weather friend at best and should be treated as such. It's how her job works.

The thing that frustrates me about this is that the news media still hasn't adapted to covering a government that just lies all the time about everything. You can't give them the benefit of the doubt!
They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.
Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.

Some characters weaponize it, and others try to live up to masculine ideals like dominance and power and providing, without realizing that their obsession with success blinds them to right and wrong.
