"Rip ICE down to the studs and start over?"

In communication, brevity and clarity is everything.

"Abolish ICE."
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

“We need to rip ICE down to the studs and start over,” Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota writes. “In the wake of this catastrophe, there is no reason we can’t come up with a way of enforcing our laws that doesn’t trample on our values and our Constitution.”
Opinion | Senator Tina Smith: I Won’t Vote to Fund ICE Until It Gets Out of My State

Chuck Schumer hears this and immediately starts thinking up ways to rescue him.
Pew has Trump's approval at 37%. And:

"Only about a quarter of Americans today (27%) say they support all or most of Trump’s policies and plans, down from 35% when he returned to office last year. That change has come entirely among Republicans."

It's like Barbenheimer, in that watching the movie sounds like being tied up with barbed wire and then having an atomic bomb dropped on you.
"Must remain in seats for entirety of film."

It's the new TikTok challenge, all the kids are trying it -- can you endure a documentary about the world's most boring evil woman?

Asking the chat for help: there's not-super-famous UK podcaster I'd like to profile for a queer media outlet. I have a long resume in journalism and I think I have a good angle. Any thoughts on places I could pitch? (I've gotten a few 'no's and I need new ideas.)

Not a controversial take here but @radleybalko.bsky.social is a rock-solid, fearless reporter who has been covering these issues since George Bush was president. Great guest.

Chuck Grassley has been in elective office since JANUARY OF NINETEEN FIFTY-NINE.

This era of politics sucks, but it IS very funny to hear the excuses these people make for not doing what they're obviously supposed to do.
Suddenly republicans have forgotten what the constitution says 🤷🏼 🇺🇸

There's a famous journalism school saying that goes "If your mother says she loves you, check it out." So I applaud Tony for setting a good example. Sorry for the bad news, T.

You know things are going badly for the administration if the Times points out the obvious this way.
Ilhan Omar, the Democratic member of Congress who was attacked at a public event in Minnesota on Tuesday, has played an outsize role in national politics. She has also long been a target of right-wing criticism and false claims, most notably from President Trump.

What do we want? TRANS NEWS!

When do we want it? 2026!!

We're down to the last few days of our 2026 fundraiser, and we've got less than $5000 left to raise, but we still need your help to raise it.

Rep. Omar was born in Somalia, so this comes after weeks of racist attacks on American citizens and residents by the president, as well as the raids on Minneapolis largely aimed at them.
I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work.

I don’t let bullies win.

Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.

Because of their quotas and because they're not exactly cut out for taxing detective work, ICE/CBP tend to target people in the worst and laziest ways possible.
After executing Alex Pretti on Saturday, ICE has shifted to primarily targeting bus stops and elementary schools in my community this week. I cannot overstate how much of the ICE activity in my community is just targeting places where little kids are.
Video from this morning shows ICE agents deploying tear gas outside a Minneapolis preschool as parents shout, “This is a preschool! There’s kids here!”

It seems rather pressing to me. How can we expect these murders to stop if the killers are *deliberately hidden by the administration* when they shuld be prosecuted?
It's not quite the most pressing issue at the moment, but the American people absolutely have a right to know the names of the federal officials who shot and killed a man peacefully protesting, who was on his knees, prone in the street when they shot him in the back.
January 27, 2026 at 3:02 PM
I hate to agree with the guy, but this is right.
The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

It's very important not to let Dems act like they've won and solved this problem just because this one unqualified wanna be influencer gets fired. Yes, she should be fired, but also, all of these people should be prosecuted and ICE needs to go.
Heads are going to roll and it's probably Noem's
Fox correspondent Bill Melugin’s stark acknowledgement that "videos appear to show [Pretti] never drew his holstered firearm" was whiplash-inducing for anyone who had been following Fox’s on-air coverage of the killing -- and it marked a major shift.
